The entire run of Molly Wobbly's Tit Factory, set to open at the Hackney Empire tonight (20 September 2013) for a limited run until 5 October, has been cancelled due to "unforeseen financial difficulties".

The show, which ran at the Lyric Theatre Belfast and Edinburgh Fringe in 2012, sees the town of Little Happening get an unexpected make-over when a devious and creepy stranger arrives on Mammary Lane promising personal improvement to three unhappy women.

The production, which was written and directed by Paul Boyd, had cast including Gary Wilmot, Sophie-Louise Dann, Shona White, Stephanie Fearon and Sam Buttery.

Clarie Middleton, chief executive of the Hackney Empire, told WhatsOnStage that the theatre "couldn't risk any more of our resources" and "for all concerned it was best to draw a line underneath it".

"As a theatre, we wouldn't want any actor being asked to play for nothing," she added. The venue is attempting to find another show to fill the gap.

Several cast members have taken to Twitter, with Shona White saying that they are "all gutted". Other tweets include:
