Philip Ridley's controversial Ghost from a Perfect Place revived at Arcola

Philip Ridley's controversial play Ghost From a Perfect Place will receive a 20th anniversary revival at the Arcola Theatre in September.

The play caused a storm when it premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 1994 due to its graphic depiction of torture. It was branded "pornographic" by the Guardian.

It centres on Travis Flood, a former gang leader who return to his old turf in east London where he falls for Rio, the leader of a vicious gang of girls.

The revival will be directed by Russell Bolam, who helmed an acclaimed production of Ridley's Shivered at Southwark Playhouse in 2012.

Produced by Sarah Stribley Productions and part funded by the Arts Council, Ghost From a Perfect Place runs at the Arcola from 11 September to 11 October 2014.
