Postcards from Hamlet Globe-to-Globe: Margaret Island Open Air Theatre, Budapest, Hungary
To celebrate the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth, Shakespeare's Globe has embarked on a two-year global tour of Hamlet that will take in every country in the world.
Hamlet Globe to Globe, directed by Dominic Dromgoole, will travel to all nations in the world to stage the play in a huge range of unique and atmospheric venues, from town squares to national theatres. They will travel by boat, train, car and aeroplane, planning their routes across the seven continents to minimise the tour's carbon footprint as much as possible.
Exclusively to WhatsOnStage, members of the cast are sending us a postcard to keep us updated on their travels, recently we received one from cast member Naeem Hayat about his time at the Roman ampitheatre Heraclea in Bitola, Macedonia.
Today, we've had another postcard put through the virtual postbox here at WOS HQ, this time from Ladi Emeruwa on performing at the Margaret Island Open Air Theatre in Budapest, Hungary.
The card reads "Because of the scale and configuration of the venue here in Budapest, our performance was relayed to the venue audience of around 2000 people via 4 large LED screens above the set. It was a really interesting experience having to adapt the performance for the multimedia aspect of the show, but also an incredibly enjoyable one as it allowed us to convey the subtleties of our performances to a large audience, which is a very rare thing in theatre of that scale. Budapest is an amazing city and one that I'm very sad to be leaving so soon! Will very definitely be back."
