Stars play God in Spamalot for charity
The Summer of Spamalot Charity Gods will raise money for charities including Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre, The Make A Wish Foundation, the Great Ormond Street Hospital, Scene & Heard, Stage For Age and Keats Community Library.
Each of the actors will donate their fee to their chosen charity. The filmed cameos will be shown during performances of Spamalot at The Playhouse Theatre for a week at a time from next week (15 July).
Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville‘s performance as God kicks off the season on Monday.
Bonneville said: “I’m grateful to the producers of Spamalot for this novel way of bringing attention to Scene & Heard’s inspirational work. I’m also delighted to be involved with the show because an ancestor on my mother’s side was in fact one of the Knights who say Ni.”
Barbara Windsor will be at the theatre on 5 August for her first night as God and Simon Callow will be in the audience on 12 August to mark the start of his week as God. Other Gods opening nights will be announced soon.
The role of God is currently played by Python and show creator Eric Idle, and features in Spamalot when King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table are given their quest to find The Holy Grail.
