Matthew Bourne launches second New Adventures Choreographer Award

Olivier and Tony award-winning choreographer Matthew Bourne has announced the second New Adventures Choreographer Award (NACA).
Open to emerging choreographers of any age, applications are assessed by a team of judges who will choose either one or a number of winners to create a showcase of new work in 2014.
The inaugural award in 2012 was given to James Cousins, who has since presented work across the world, as well as being commissioned to create a new piece for Scottish Ballet. He said: “Winning the inaugural New Adventures Choreographer Award has opened so many doors for me; I would recommend it to anyone.”
Bourne is joined this year on the panel by two new judges; Emma Rice, artistic director of Kneehigh, and Edward Watson, principal dancer at the Royal Ballet.
They are joined by previous judges Scott Ambler, Lez Brotherston, Nina Goldman, Christopher Hampson, Etta Murfitt and Sharon Watson.
All winners will be mentored by Matthew Bourne and other judges will provide work opportunities, mentoring and support over the twelve months leading up to a showcase of new work. The award is run by the charitable arm of New Adventures, Re:Bourne who provide mentoring support on budgeting, management, contracting and fundraising.
