Kate Fleetwood, Anna Maxwell Martin and Olivia Vinall join Russell Beale in Mendes’ Lear

The trio will play Lear’s three daughters alongside Adrian Scarborough and Stanley Townsend in the National Theatre production next year, according to the Daily Mail

Kate Fleetwood, Anna Maxwell Martin and Olivia Vinall will join Simon Russell Beale in Sam Mendes‘ production of King Lear at the National Theatre next year, according to the Daily Mail.

The actresses, who will play Lear’s three daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, will be joined by Adrian Scarborough as The Fool and Stanley Townsend as Kent.

Kate Fleetwood, who plays Goneril, appeared most recently at the National Theatre in London Road, and she was nominated for a Tony for her performance in Rupert Goold’s Macbeth. Anna Maxwell Martin (Regan)’s stage credits include Measure for Measure (Almeida), Cabaret (Lyric) and His Dark Materials (National).

Olivia Vinall, who will play Cordelia, is currently starring as Desdemona in Nicholas Hytner’s production of Othello at the NT Olivier with Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear. Her other stage credits include Romeo and Juliet and The Last Cuckoo.

The production, which marks Mendes’ first return to the National Theatre since 1998, will open in January 2014.
