Hollywood film giant 20th Century Fox has teamed with Tony Award-winning theatre producer Kevin McCollum to develop a raft of musicals based on the studio’s vast back catalogue of films.

McCollum, whose Broadway credits include Rent and Avenue Q, said: “The early development phase is both an exciting and vulnerable time in the life of a musical. This new joint venture provides a much needed foundation to the creative process for myself, my partners, and the artists who will develop these shows.”

Fox chairman Jim Gianopulos added: “For years we have been eager to expand our entertainment expertise to the world of live stage. But we wanted to do it right and, most importantly, with the right people.”

The 20th Century Fox catalogue include some of the biggest grossing films of all time, including James Cameron’s Oscar-winners Avatar and Titanic.

Between nine and twelve titles are reported to be under consideration at this stage, with productions planned for Broadway and internationally.

Also backing the project are film producer John Davis and entertainment executive Tom McGrath.
