Simon Day, best known for his many roles on TV sketch show The Fast Show, plays Major Courtney in the new cast of WhatsOnStage Award-winning comedy The Ladykillers, which returns to the West End tonight (9 July)

Where did you grow up?
Blackheath in east London

What were you like as a child?
A bed wetting genius

What made you want to become a performer?
Internal pain

If you hadn’t become a comedian, what might you have done professionally?
Become a singer or a rapper

Where were your biggest influences?
Pretty much everything in the cinema and on television

First big break?
Vic Reeves Big Night Out [in 1990]

Favourite co-stars?
All of them

What was the first thing you saw on stage that had a big impact on you?
The Caretaker

Have you always been a fan of The Ladykillers?
Yes

For those who don’t know it, what’s the story?
A load of dodgy robbers hide out in an old lady’s house

How did you go about making the role of Major Courtney your own?
By making my own mistakes

Favourite line in the show?
“It looked like a starving baby in a sock”

What’s your favourite post-show hang out?
My house

How do you unwind?
Cheeky!
