OperaUpClose Supports Breast Cancer With A Charity Bohème

The event starts at 6.30pm with a champagne and canapés reception with the cast, the show itself beginning at 7.30pm.  All money raised will go towards founding a Young Women’s Support Group for the emergent group of women affected by breast cancer who are under the age of 50 (the NHS only offers routine mammograms to those 50+ so the plight of these young women often goes unnoticed).

Chief Executive, Victoria Todd, said, “Today we’re seeing an increasing number of young women diagnosed with breast cancer.  Cancerkin plans to train volunteers to offer these young patients specialist counselling not just on medical matters, but on the whole range of practical, emotional and family issues they’ll be encountering for the first time.”

OperaUpClose’s production of the Puccini classic is a witty updating which, in Kilburn, saw the second act performed in the real-life bar amongst local drinkers and the Soho transfer will seek to reproduce the same atmosphere.  The young, talented cast present a moving and vibrant version of the work, which has gone down in opera history as the longest continual run ever.
