Digital Archive for Siobhan Davies

Contemporary choreographer Siobhan Davies has launched a digital archive of her work. Produced with the Centre for Media Arts and Performance at Coventry University, it features film, images, text and writing relating to 36 of her dance works plus seven related projects.

The archive includes full length films of performances, plus biographies of the many dancers costume makers, lighting designers and composers Davies has worked with. There is also a fun element, including a so-called “kitchen” click, which lists the creative ingredients which are part of Davies’ 2004 piece Bird Song.

Davies created her first choreography for London Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1977 and went on to work with Rambert Dance Company before forming Siobhan Davies Dance in 1988.

Davies says: “Dance thrives on being seen in the moment of their doing, but there is now a wealth of knowledge that can be easily accessed through my dance archive.”
