A few of my favourite things: Danielle Hope

Live in the Delfont Room: An Evening With Danielle Hope is on Thursday 26 June at 11pm at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Ahead of the event, we caught up with Danielle to find out some of her favourite things.

So Danielle what is your favourite…

Film

Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge. I grew up watching and singing along to this film and I think between this and Disney it is one of the reasons I started to sing (a solo version of the elephant love medley being a personal favourite haha). I adore Paris and I think the costumes and the way the movie is shot is so decadent. I have to admit when I visited the actual Moulin Rouge for the first time I was a tiny bit disappointed Ewan McGregor wasn’t swinging from the top of it.

Place to hang out in London?

I adore being near water and anywhere along the Thames is ok by me. There is so much to do and see and also many a bench available if you just need a great place to take ten minutes for yourself.

Restaurant? (What would you order?)

I would definitely have to say Bills. I visit this restaurant more than any other and there is ALWAYS one by many of the theatres in the West End. It’s the perfect between show pit stop and a great place to take visiting family and friends. (It’s a simple fish finger sandwich and an elderflower cordial for me usually)

Holiday Destination?

Just has to be NYC. My favourite place in the universe after home. Although most of the time it feels like I’m returning home when I visit.

Play/Musical that you have seen?

I can NEVER answer this question as I have been lucky enough to have seen SO much amazing theatre in my life so far, so I will pick something quite recent to narrow it down for myself. I was so inspired when I saw Jason Robert Brown’s Bridges of Madison County on Broadway, it was so simple and just so beautifully scored and sung, it really touched my heart and I have been addicted to the soundtrack since. I also have been lucky enough to see Miss Saigon twice already in London and it is just gorgeous, so if you can get to see it take your tissues and your friends!

Theatre to visit?

The Palladium is such a special theatre to me that whenever I return to either watch a show or just pop in for a walk around it always fills me with the warmest fondest memories. I am forever inspired and grateful to this theatre for everything it gave me during my very first west end experience.

Theatre to Work in?

I think it’s such a different experience performing in various theatres, I don’t think there are two the same. I could never say one more than another however, I do know I am so excited to finally get the opportunity to perform at the Manchester Palace Theatre in my home town this autumn In Joseph though, as I have never done a show in Manchester yet!

Actress/Actor?

I admire so many performers in this industry for so many of their endless talents and have been inspired throughout my life by lots of them. One Actor in particular though helped, shaped, inspired, nurtured, taught and cared for me throughout one of the biggest challenges and adventures at the start of my career. Michael Crawford will always be a theatre, TV, film and recording legend but also I am so proud to call him my friend and mentor. He is not only one of the most crazily talented and versatile performers I have come across, he is generous with his time and love for the industry and the people within it too. Michael will always be one of my favourite people.
