Our Broadway owners TheaterMania have been gearing up for this year's Tony Awards in fine style, offering up a range of fantastic features including:

  • A letter from nominee Harvey Fierstein addressed to the 'virgin Tony nominees'. Advice includes "Keep gum or mints in your pocket. You may not always be able to get to the buffet."
  • Cyndi Lauper

  • 'My First...', a lovely feature in which Tony newbies discuss the other major firsts in their lives, including Cyndi Lauper's first apartment, and Bertie Carvel's first job (it was in a cave!)

  • A run-down of the TheaterMania team's 'favourite Tonys' - that's people called Tony, not previous winners...
  • A video list of the greatest Tony acceptance speeches, from Sondheim accepting his first two on the same night to Nathan Lane insisting he share his honour for The Producers with Matthew Broderick. Awww.

Matilda and Kinky Boots lead the pack

The nominations are dominated this year by two British-orientated musicals; Matilda and Kinky Boots, with 12 and 13 nods respectively (see our full nominations story).

Matilda's nominations include Best Musical, Best Direction (Matthew Warchus) and Best Score (Tim Minchin), while British cast members Bertie Carvel and Lauren Ward, who both originated with the show at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2010, also made the shortlists. Its four US child stars also made the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre list.

The show, which opened to rave reviews at New York's Shubert Theatre since April, is adapted from Roald Dahl's 1988 novel about a bookish girl with magical powers.

Kinky Boots, about a British shoe factory that begins manufacturing fetish footwear, features an original score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, both of whom are nominated.

Other Brits in the shortlists include actor Tom Sturridge, who goes head to head with stars including Tom Hanks and Nathan Lane in the Best Actor category for his role opposite Alec Baldwin in Lyle Kessler's Orphans, and Soutra Gilmour, nominated for Best Costume Design for Cyrano de Bergerac.

Elsewhere, other heavily nominated shows include Pippin (10), Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella (9) and Bartlett Sher's revival of Clifford Odets' play Golden Boy (8).

    Coverage on the night

Winners of the 67th annual Tony Awards will be announced at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday (9 June 2013), with the ceremony beginning at 8pm ET, or 1am Monday BST.

Both WhatsOnStage and TheaterMania will be live tweeting the ceremony, which will be viewable via a live coverage story running on the night.

We'll be following up with comprehensive photo and video highlights, including any nuggets of gossip relevant on this side of the Atlantic. So be sure to log on to both sites (very) early on Monday!
