Jane Horrocks will star in Ayub Khan Din's East is East as part of Jamie Lloyd's second Trafalgar Transformed season at the Trafalgar Studios.

Running from 4 October 2014 to 3 January 2015, the show will be directed by Sam Yates (The El Train), and will also star the author as Pakistani chip-shop owner George.

The play, which was made into a successful 1999 film starring Om Puri and Linda Bassett, looks at the tensions in a family in Salford.

Jane Horrocks last appeared on stage in Annie Get Your Gun at the Young Vic. Her other stage credits include The Good Soul of Szechuan (Young Vic), Aunt Dan and Lemon (Royal Court) and Absurd Person Singular (West End). Her TV and film credits include Trollied, Absolutely Fabulous and Sunshine on Leith.

The announcement of the next production in Jamie Lloyd's second Trafalgar Transformed season comes following this week's earlier news of further casting for his production of Richard III starring Martin Freeman.

Jamie Lloyd said: "I am overjoyed to welcome the incredibly talented Jane Horrocks… and am excited that Ayub himself has agreed to play George. This will add even more weight and authenticity to this major revival of his semi-autobiographical play."
