Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance in Twelfth Night, which transferred to Broadway last November

This year's Tony Award nominations, which were announced today, feature a strong showing of British talent.

Those gaining nods include director Michael Grandage (for The Cripple of Inishmaan), Twelfth Night stars Mark Rylance, Samuel Barnett, Paul Chadihi and Stephen Fry, and actress Sophie Okonedo.

Grandage - who won Best Director at the WhatsOnStage Awards in February - is joined on the Best Direction of a Play shortlist by fellow Brits Tim Carroll (Twelfth Night) and John Tiffany (The Glass Menagerie). Elsewhere Es Devlin, Christopher Oram and Bob Crowley feature in the Best Scenic Design of a Play category.

This year's most nominated production is musical comedy adaptation A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder - based on the same source for iconic British film Kind Hearts and Coronets - with ten.

The results of the 68th Tony Awards will be announced in a ceremony hosted by Hugh Jackman on 8 June 2014.
