The Gate Theatre will mark its 35th anniversary this year with the return of one of the company's most successful recent productions – artistic director Christopher Haydon's production of George Brant's Grounded, starring Lucy Ellinson.

The production, which centres on a fighter pilot who must take a desk job following her pregnancy, premiered at last year's Edinburgh Fringe, before an extended run at the Gate.

After its return at the Gate (from 28 April to 30 May), Grounded transfers to the US, playing at the Studio Theatre in Washington DC from 10 to 29 June.

The Gate's 2014 season, titled 'Far From Home', will continue with Germany writer Roland Schimmelpfennig's Iliad-inspired play Idomeneus, in a new translation by David Tushingham.

Running from 23 June to 19 July (previews from 19 June), the production is directed by Gate associate artist Ellen McDougall.

Christopher Haydon said: "2014 is a special year for the Gate as we mark our 35th birthday... With this in mind, I am hugely excited to announce our next season at the Gate: Far From Home. This comprises of two remarkable plays, each of which tells the story of someone who finds themselves stranded far from their families – either psychologically or geographically."
