Ballet Black Marks Tenth Anniversary with Orpheus

By • London
Award winning black and Asian dance company Ballet Black is returning to the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio next week (9-12 February) to unveil the world premiere of its first ever narrative work, Orpheus.

The one-act ballet, choreographed by Will Tuckett, runs until 12 February (prior to a UK tour) as part of the company’s tenth anniversary celebrations.

Orpheus tells the story of Orpheus’ journey through the Underworld to reach his beloved wife, Eurydice, and is performed to Stravinsky’s score.

Ballet Black is composed of an international group of dancers and choreographers and has recently expanded. The six full company members are now joined by two British apprentice dancers, Samuel Chung (Tring Park) and Kanika Carr (Central School of Ballet).

Following its run at the Linbury, Orpheus will tour to Cambridge Arts Theatre (20-21 February), Theatre Royal, Bury-St-Edmunds (4 March), Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton (5 April), Exeter Nothcott (29-30 April), Watford Palace (4 May), Lakeside Arts Centre (21 June) and Lincoln Drill Hall (22 June).
