Simon Paisley Day completes Urinetown casting

The West End and Broadway actor joins the previously announced Richard Fleeshman, Jenna Russell, Jonathan Slinger and Marc Elliott in the show at the St James Theatre

Simon Paisley Day will complete the cast of Urinetown The Musical at the St James Theatre, which opens on 11 March 2014 (previews from 22 February).

The production, which marks the UK premiere of Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis' musical, also stars Richard Fleeshman, Jenna Russell, Jonathan Slinger and Marc Elliott.

Directed by Jamie Lloyd, Urinetown The Musical is set in a Gotham-like city of the future, where a hero leads the people in an uprising against private toilets.

Simon Paisley Day, who will play Caldwell B Cladwell, has stage credits including Twelfth Night (National), The Low Road (Royal Court), The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare's Globe). Screen credits include Sherlock, Doctor Who and Musketeers and most recently he wrote the comedy Raving which played at the Hampstead Theatre.

The rest of the cast comprises Chris Bennett (Swing), Katie Bernstein (Little Becky Two Shoes/Mrs. Millennium), Alasdair Buchan (Swing), Cory English (Old Man Strong/Hot Blades Harry), Madeleine Harland (Soupy Sue/Cladwell’s Secretary), Rosanna Hyland (Hope Cladwell), Karis Jack (Little Sally), Julie Jupp (Old Woman/Josephine Strong), Aaron Lee Lambert (Billy Boy Bill/UGC Executive), Mark Meadows (Senator Fipp), Joel Montague (Swing), Jo Napthine (Swing), Jeff Nicholson (Tiny Tom/Dr. Billeaux), Adam Pearce (Officer Barrel), Charlotte Scott (Swing) and Matthew Seadon-Young (Robbie The Stockfish/UGC Executive).

Urinetown The Musical runs at the St James Theatre until 3 May 2014.
