Following swiftly on from the hit run of The Father French playwright Florian Zeller's piece The Mother will run at the Tricycle theatre in January (21 – 2 July). The Mother will star BAFTA-winner Gina McKee as Anne, a mother whose children have grown up.

The Mother opened at the Ustinov theatre in Bath in May, receiving excellent reviews. McKee is joined by Richard Clothier and William Postlethwaite.

Artistic director Indhu Rubasingham will also direct the UK premiere of the play The Invisible Hand by Pulitzer Prize-winner Ayad Akhtar (12 May – 2 July). The play follows American banker Nick Bright who is being confined in a cell in Pakistan.

Akhtar said "I feel terrifically lucky that The Invisible Hand has found its way to a premiere at the Tricycle in 2016. I feel honoured to be part — in whatever humble way — of the Tricycle’s long tradition of politically engaged, culturally rich work."

Joining these pieces is a work by Irish performer Mikel Murfi, who recently starred alongside Cillian Murphy in Ballyturk. The Man in the Woman's Shoes is a one-man show, written and performed by Murfi about the life of one man in Ireland in October 1978 (4-23 April).

Also in the season is comedian and activist Mark Thomas's new piece Trespass (25 April – 7 May) and young people from Brent will takeover the theatre again in Tricycle Takeover (13 – 23 March).

Members' priority booking from Tuesday 6 October at 10am. Public booking from Friday 9 October at midday.
