A hit Beatles musical is set to hit the "long and winding road" on it its first ever UK and Irish tour next year.

Charting the rock 'n' roll band's rise from their humble beginnings, through the height of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces, Let It Be will come to the fab four's hometown between 7-12 April.

It will be staged at the Liverpool Empire Theatre – a venue where the group performed a total of five times throughout the 1960s.

Having just celebrated its first birthday in the West End, the international success is packed with over forty of The Beatles' greatest hits including "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", "Hard Day's Night", "Day Tripper", and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Diane Belding, general manager of the Liverpool Empire, said: "We're thrilled that the Let It Be tour will be visiting the Liverpool Empire next April. Where better to watch it than in the very same venue the Beatles themselves played in. The Fab Four are coming home!"

Some original London cast members will be starring in the show, with the full company set to be announced soon.

It is produced by Jamie Hendry Productions and Annerin Productions.
