John Power returns to the hit show Lennon and will be taking on the role of the older version of the profilic singer/songwriter, who acts the show’s narrator. Growing up near Penny Lane, Power went to the same schools as Lennon (Dovedale and Quarry Bank) before becoming a key member of the band The La’s. He then went on to form Cast who had huge Britpop success with hits such as “Alright”, “Sandstorm” and “Walkaway”. The band split in 2001 but recently reformed and released their much anticipated fifth album “Troubled Times” in 2012. He took on the same role at Royal Court Liverpool in August 2013.

The charismatic front man enjoyed his time as an actor last year and is happy to be back:

“I’m really looking forward to catching up with the cast again. It was a great challenge last time and the whole experience last time was a bit mind-blowing to be honest. If the performances are anything like last year’s then the audiences will love it so hopefully we can pick up where we left off and it’ll be a great show.”

The show will be back at The Royal Court following on from successful runs in 2010 and 2013. Prior to that the show had not been performed in the city since its original run at The Everyman in 1982, from where it went to off Broadway and then back to London’s West End.

Writer/director Bob Eaton is joined again by musical director Howard Gray. Yoko Ono is supporting the show having agreed, along with Sony, to the use of all of the music in the show.

Kevin Fearon, chief executive of Royal Court Liverpool, is delighted to have the show back: “The show got a brilliant response last time so we were looking for an opportunity to bring it back and all of the cast had a great time so they were keen too! The show is packed with great music and we had people watching it over and over again last time.”

The show will be part of the Cultural Programme underpinning the International Festival for Business 2014, the global business festival hosted by Liverpool for the UK taking place in June and July.

Lennon is at the Royal Court, Liverpool from 13 June – 19 July.
