First look at The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in rehearsals

The show, directed by Sally Cookson, is coming to the West Yorkshire Playhouse

Photos have been released showing the cast and crew of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in rehearsals for the show ahead of its opening on 29 November.

Filled with puppetry, faux-fur and even bicycles, the show promises to be a unique take on the classic C S Lewis legend. Director Sally Cookson, responsible for the UK touring Jane Eyre and last winter's Peter Pan, will give the show a quirky when it opens at the West Yorkshire Playhouse Quarry Theatre.

Carla Mendonça plays the Wicked Witch, draped in 24 metres of white faux fur. The rest of the cast includes Peter Caulfield, Lucy Tuck and Alan Francis.

Designer Rae Smith said: "Experimenting with costumes, materials, puppets and props is a brilliant and interactive way of creating a character from within the rehearsal room. By simply dressing up and playing in role with the actors they begin to develop the physical storytelling of the show."

The piece will have music by Benji Bower, sound design from Ian Dickinson and lighting by Bruno Poet. Adam Peck is the writer in the room, and the movement director is Dan Canhan.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe runs at West Yorkshire Playhouse from 6 December to 21 January, with previews from 29 November.
