West Yorkshire Playhouse announces Transform14 programme
The fourth annual Transform festival arrives at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on 27 March 2014. The event presents an eclectic programme of brand new shows, works in progress and other exciting performances from diverse local, national and international artists. Taking a different format each time, Transform14 is being held across, what Playhouse artistic director, James Brining, calls “one high impact weekend”.
Among the highlights include Hannah Bruce & Company’s The Claim, which takes visitors into hidden parts of the Playhouse building, and Chris Goode & Company’s The Albemarle Sketchbook, an ambitious work-in-progress about dreams. As well as utilising all of the space within the Playhouse, several shows take place off-site, such as Selina Thompson’s It Burns It All Clean, a social game show held at a secret location.
On the now infamous Transform Saturday night, Scottee presents Variety Night, featuring an exciting line-up of performers, followed by a lively after party presented by Live Art Bistro, with music and dancing.
Among the guest artists dropping by Transform14 include Made in China, Hannah Jane Walker & Chris Thorpe, and Third Angel with Cape Wreath, a sell-out at 2013’s Edinburgh Fringe.
In addition, there is the usual Transform mix of music, special events, and free shows. Throughout the weekend, visitors can also drop by the Transform Café, which will be hosted each day by a different ‘Transform artist, conversation or idea’.
Launching Transform14 alongside Brining, associate producer, Amy Letman, promises the event will give audiences a chance to explore “hidden parts of the Playhouse”, across an “awesome weekend” during which visitors will find exciting things to “see, do and participate in”. Brining adds that the event offers performers and audiences the chance to participate in “work at the cutting edge” that also forms “a central part of what the Playhouse is all about”.
