Five Reasons To See ... PS 122 & Chelsea Theatre's Sacred

The fourth Sacred season this autumn offers a transatlantic collaboration between New York’s PS 122 in the heart of the East Village, and Chelsea Theatre at World’s End place.

PS 122 has served as one of New York City’s best known platforms for innovative new work for the past 30 years and is renowned for supporting artists whose work challenges traditional boundaries of theatre, dance and performance.

Opening on Tuesday (26 October 2010), Sacred’s four week programme offers a heady mix of live art and contemporary performance from both continents including new work from Richard Maxwell, Marisa Carnesky, Young Jean Lee, Julia Bardsely and more.

Chelsea Theatre give us their five reasons to attend Sacred.

1. Sacred showcases non-traditional performance

Chelsea Theatre is London's only theatre dedicated to Live Art and is dedicated to commissioning, producing and presenting the freshest and most innovative artists, both nationally and internationally.

2. Richard Maxwell comes to the UK for the first time in five years

Richard Maxwell, best known for his company the New York City Players, has recently been described by the New York Times as "One of the most innovative and essential artists to emerge from American experimental theatre in the past decade.” In his performance of ADS he asks whether theatre is possible without a human presence and how we can we address these questions in a live performance?

3. Award winning Korean American playwright Young Jean Lee makes her UK debut

Young Jean Lee’s uncompromising and brutally honest work has made a huge impact over the past fouryears. She was named by American Theatre magazine as one of the 25 artist who will shape the American theatre over the next 25 years.

4. Performances by Sara Juli and Marisa Carnesky

Sara Julian, American dancer and performance artist give away her actual savings in the festival finale: The Money Conversation. Marisa Carnesky delivers unusual Halloween surprises complete with custom made waxworks and the reprise of Julia Bardsley’s Almost The Same, back by popular demand.

5. You would normally have to fly to New York to see these artists

And we're bringing them to you for the most reasonable ticket prices in town. We're also charging less for the for shows than you’d pay at most London venues. Or you could spend a few hundred pounds on that trip to New York!

Sacred, which is made up of 18 different events, workshops and performances is held at Chelsea Theatre, Worlds End Place from 26 October until 20 November 2010.
