My Damage is my Gift is a unique show brimming with laughter and songs that brings new meaning to the term musical comedy by BBC and New York Times featured NYC stand-up comedian Jonathan Prager.

Here's why Jonathan thinks you should come and see his show.

I have arrived at the Edinburgh Fringe fresh from performing my show three times at the prestigious New York City 59E59 Theatres in Manhattan.  The audiences loved it and I had a great time.  I have just finished recording a CD of the songs I wrote for my show, and I am generating interest and backers for the TV series that is planned as the next development of Jonathan Prager: My Damage is My Gift!

The time in New York the month before the Fringe was a creative and dynamic whirlwind.  I wrote eleven songs, created a completely new show, performed it, created a CD and even found time to find a place to stay in Edinburgh for the month – by far the most daunting of those accomplishments.

I can’t believe this is my fifth time at the Fringe! The atmosphere is dynamic and wonderfully creative.  You get to see great shows, be influenced by great comedians, meet and share and talk with other artists and get inspired not only by the other acts, but by the receptive and enthusiastic audiences who come to see you and your show.

I have crafted 11 songs for my show and woven them together with comedy pieces.  Each song is created specifically for this show and highlights a different aspect of what I experience in my life, but more importantly highlights in an intuitive and unique way what each of us goes through, but may not admit, be aware of, or bring into focus in quite the way I do.  There is great humour, great sweetness, great pain all mixed together.

I have sung professionally for many years and began to focus on doing stand-up comedy a few years ago because I like the freedom that writing my own material brings me. So it seemed natural to combine my two talents and create an all new genre and approach that brings together my singing and my comedy.

Family is at the root of my show.  The roles they play and create, the fear they both have and instill.  They’re very universal issues.  I look at these forces with honesty, courage and humour – which, I hope, will empower the people in my audiences to take a fresh look at themselves without the habitual limitations created by views forced upon them within their families.

I also hope that the audience will joyously revel in the music, which is not only beautiful, but also silly, fun and toe-tappingly happy!

Jonathan Prager:My Damage is my Gift is showing at the Laughing Horse @ The Counting House, 38 West Nicolson Street, EH8 9DD from 4-27 August at 23:00.
