starstarstarIt really was a terrible production, lots of clutter, lots of views of what was happening off stage. The actors appeared to think that shaking your body when you walked and pulling funny faces is all there is to comedy. It all fell apart just when it was supposed to step up a gear. - cherry Mosteshar11 Nov 12
starstarstarI haven't actually seen the play - it's the review I'm reviewing and it must be said that Ms Matthews' execrable offering above is simply an insult. Barely any actors mentioned and even the director doesn't get a look-in. What happened to Michael Coveney, or is he solely confined to London - because a good deal better he would be here. Tut tut tut. - Critic's Critic09 Nov 12

starstarstarstarstarThis was an excellent, fast moving production which changed my views about the play. - Neil Burns06 Nov 12
starstarShakespeare chose not to use verse much, but his prose is infinitely rich. This performance relied on stage gimmicks; the words were either shouted or gabbled. Laughs in all the wrong places, not bringing out the subtlety of the text and the double entendres as explained on Jonathan Bates' excellent new edition. Only Falstaff and Mistress Quickly gave due weight to the words. The RSC should visit the Tobacco Factory in Bristol to see how Shakespeare ought to be produced. - Richard Anthony Camp05 Nov 12
