I enjoyed this moving show that had me both laughing and crying. Elaine as Susan was brilliant! I felt the ending was slightly weak (though, as 'susan' said, hers is a story with a beginning and a middle and as of yet, no end), all that was missing was the appearance of the real star at the end. I was disappointed but not altogether surprised at her non appearance, I so really would love to hear her sing. Was sad to hear that she'd appeared the previous night and not ours. - ali

I saw the performance last night and really enjoyed the story. It doesn't matter that Susan Boyle did not appear as this musical holds its own without the need for an add on appearance at the end. There were posters around the theatre announcing that she would not appear but personally I thought this wasn't needed as it is not a Susan Boyle concert but a great, funny, moving and original show! - Jon Dickinson

Production was excellent. very emotional moving story with excellent cast. Only complaint was we paid to see Susan Boyle which we were told came on at the end of the performance. This was my husband's birthday present and he was looking forward to it. She never turned up!!! i get the disclaimer that due to unforeseen circumstances you cannot guarantee appearance but we werent even told she wasnt there by the theatre staff there was no announcement and we sat through the whole performance waiting for the final moment which we had heard was excellent by friends who went the night before. Very disappointing and could have been handled better. Although i think we are jinxed as we booked to see her in britains got talent tour and she didnt turn up for that either!!!!!!! - S Trainor

Great night at the theatre! Lighting, sound, setting, orchestra, script, acting beautifully orchestrated to spotlight the intriguing story, the chaos and serenity of life itself, and the power of belief, endurance and determination. Might there be a hint here of the humanity necessary to become a better world? I'll see it again and bravo to the many masters of their crafts! LARC - LARC

Saw it three times in Newcastle. Plan to see it in London and NY as I am sure it will be there eventually. Elaine and the whole cast were surperb and Susan, when she appears, is magical . Hearing her sing live is an experience I wish everyone could have. - Sugar Puddin

I'm dying to see this musical but I live almost 12000 miles from the UK. I've read only rave reviews of this production and the tweets of people who saw this were all extremely positive and urged people to see it - Nemo

Simply a must-see Musical. Elaine C Smith, as Susan, is superb and carries the show, ably supported by a wonderfully versatile cast, with Jamie Paterson and Andy Gray stand-outs!
By all accounts, Susan brought the house down last night and, when she is able to be present, that has been the reaction nationwide! - Stevieboy49

I also am a musical theater buff and a singer as well. I saw this musical in Newcastle twice and am planning on attending the final tour performance in Glasgow. Elaine C Smith is nothing short of brilliant as Susan Boyle. The show is fast paced, filled with pathos and humor and everything I want to see in a musical. Susan Boyle singing at the end is magical, but when she is not there due to other commitments (this has always been the intention), this show is clearly stand alone and deserves all the accolades it has received. This is a must see! - carol

being a musical lover, I rate this musical a 5 star.
The set is simple, but very effective in the story as is the wall of tv screens.
The cast is plain good and the show has a good balance between the sad and the funny episodes. ElaineCSmith is a very believable Susan, singing the songs in her own way, which is surprisingly good and emotional.
The quality of Susan Boyle's singing is best known by the reaction of the public, your descriptiontake in the article says it all : she takes us by storm in a performance that sweeps us off our feet to clap and whoop.

The Musical has received 5 Star reviews from several respected critics, and all the tweets I've read from theatre goers have been total raves. Including the original 'What'sOnStage' review when it opened in Newcastle. - CBill

I am a seasoned musical theatre goer and I think the above review is very generous. I'm not a massive SuBo fan and I enjoyed the show but it was 3* maximum. Elaine Smith has a great, raspy voice but struggled with some of the higher notes and Susan Boyle herself, appearing at the end which was a lovely surprise, had a handful of duff notes during which she clutched her stomach for all to see, further reinforcing that she too was struggling. Some will say I'm being picky but I relay only what I saw. If you're a big fan and don’t mind verbal clichés, you'll love the show; if you're a fan of musicals in general, it's just ok. - Adey Smith
