starstarstarstarThe music was wonderful and so were the performances - but I suspect the producer and designer were in a panic - too much blood to cover too little action! First scene with tables being laid with cutlery, the cutlery taken away, food brought in (no cutlery by this time), taken away again not eaten, makes one wonder what the production team was thinking of. I was pleased to find out about the corpse, as in my cheap seat I had no idea that it existed... - David Allen28 Apr 11
starstarstarstarGood singing and playing, convincing updating to the modern day and the chance to see a rarely performed opera. Definitely worth making an effort to get to it! - Jim McKillop21 Apr 11
starstarstarCould not agree less about Simon Thomas's comment about the sets. I went with a friend and we thoought the sets were spectacular and did not look cheap at all!!The singing was excellent and overall a great evening - such a change from the usual potboilers. - Frederick Pyne20 Apr 11
starstarstarstarstarGlad you enjoyed it so much Brian. Clearly my final comment is off the mark for you. - Simon Thomas15 Apr 11
starstarstarstarstarFirst time I had seen this Opera and it was stunning for several reasons. Firstly, I diccovered some beautiful and at times powerful new music which was outstandingly performed by the ROH orchestra under the excellent Mark Elder. Second, the sets were clever and inventive with excellent lighting. Third, the singing, in the main, was delightful by a largely russian crew. Fourth, The modern Russian setting actually worked very understandibly. I defy anybody seeing this production not to come away having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Finally, Simon, it WILL be high on my list of 'must see' operas in the future! - Brian Lofts15 Apr 11
