starstarAstounded that anyone not involved with this show would give it anything more than an average review. The talented energised cast were clearly doing the most they could with a script that needs serious editing. There were moments of great comedy in the deliberate 'badly acted, badly written' soap scenes, but when this is contrasted with a 'real' scene that is badly written, badly directed and with two dimensional characters the comedy of the earlier scenes was lost. I applaud this incredibly talented cast for their commitment but they were up against it to do anything with the bulk of the material. - Jayne14 Jan 11
starFar too much cash has been spent on this dire, cringeworthy show. Some good acting (esp older members of cast), great band, but awful writing. Lyrics rhyme predictably, no one cares for the characters, music is forgettable. Last scene has glimmers of what this show intends to be but I was hiding behind my hands. Rest of the small audience seemed similarly underwhelmed. - Tim17 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarI simply couldn't disagree with the WOS review more. This is the best new musical to hit the west end in the past year. ALW should come and see it to see how a book should be written. It is tight, well plotted, full of heart. I laughed, I cried, I let the emotional roller-coaster take me away to Legacy Falls. The music and lyrics are excellent - how many times have you heard an audience singing the songs in the bar during the interval! they did last night. But best of all, this is probably the most perfectly cast show to hit the West End in the past five years, for which we must all bow our heads to Danielle Tarento who has worked a wonder. She has taken an already wickedly funny, entertaining show, and lifted it into a realm certainly not seen elsewhere on the Strand at present... And what a cast. Universally wonderful, but I really would single out Tara Hugo as being outstanding. Why do we not see more of this amazing woman. Thank you, thank you, thank you New Players Theatre. I will be going to see the show again, and What's On Stage? You need to send another critic to go and see this show, as Alex Packer is for far of the mark as to be an embarrassment to you. - Richard Voyce13 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarthis is a great show, excellent cast, good vocals, and some new and catchy songs, a clever mock version of daytime soap.It has comedy music and emotion what more could you want - phil10 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarThe only thing I would agree with the reviewer would be regarding the set - it is a little bland even though it is supposed to portray a backstage environment. The show itself however is has a superb balance of cheese and originality, keeps you laughing, even during some of the songs. Brings a lump to your throat at various places. This show has a deep current of feeling that runs through the whole thing, which when the curtain is drawn makes you want to stand up sob and cheer at the same time. Its been a long time since I had such an enjoyable night out. - ABJ10 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarThe readers' reviews are spot on - this is a hugely entertaining show with lots of laughs and a great cast - go see - Sal08 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarI absolutely loved it. A fabulous, funny, heart-warming brand new musical. Gorgeous, witty, tuneful songs; hysterical book; some fabulous "Acorn Antiques" moments and great performances from all concerned, with special mention to the scene stealing Joanne Heywood as Taylor Taylor/Madison Bennett. A totally unexpected new gay anthem that leaps from absoulutely nowhere in the second act ""I Am On Your Side", after laughing uproariously for an hour and a half I was suddenly in floods of tears. Totally disagree about the sets, thought Georgia Lowe has come up with an innovatove inventive minimal set and spot on costumes. Can't recommend this highly enough, I'll definitely be returning for another helping. PS I have nothing to do with the production. - Front Row Dress06 Nov 10
starstarstarstarI really enjoyed the show a lot. The cast are all excellent and it's very funny. If you want to see a show using someone's back catalogue or something based on an 80's movie, then go see else. If you want a laugh at an original musical, then this is it. - Steve06 Nov 10
starstarstarstarstarthis review is total BS..one of the best shows i have seen in years.. Alex Packer lighten up, it was supposed to be cliche thats the point of daytime television....anyway,,great show, great songs, great cast... - craig goodman04 Nov 10
