Absolutely amazing! Loved the show and couldn't tear my eyes away throughout. Great singers and dancers. The set changes are crazily quick! Could watch over and over - Steph

Oh Lorraine J lighten up!
everyone else go and see this. I came dowm from Nottingham, and stayed an extra day so I could go again.
Loved the film, and thought the show was much stronger, and had much more of an emotional punch... Really enjoyed the new music, and just after two listens were humming them all the way home.
Amazing dancers taking a range of styles, amazing set that zipped all over place, some of the best voices I've ever heard...And as for the water, they had much more than the film.....which makes it an improvement in my eyes. - S Ryding

When it opens this man comes on stage and dances like a cross between a maniac and god. He is so fluid and graceful you can tell from that moment you are in for a treat. an incredible dance show from start to finish, you will be more then surprised to find that the singing is not bad but in fact quite good. A really fun treat to go and see. - Laura S.

I was so emotionally affected by Flashdance The Musical that I went to see it at the Shaftesbury Theatre once more. What became clear to me is this Flashdance is a break-through musical, so exciting and so moving it is a clear candidate for being the first true twenty-first century stage musical. It's highly finessed use of pure drama and stunning music places it into a category of it's own. Far superior to the other musicals out there today. Bravo! It deserves every one of it's five stars - Jackson

Flashdance is an amazing spectacle of dance set to new material and some familiar 80s classics. I haven't seen so much dancing on stage since "42nd Street". I think the thing to remember is that this is a new piece of work based on an old film. It is not simply the film on stage; it pushes forward, which is why I think some people are a little confused by it. Every professional reviewer had a different take on the "dream" sequence, for example. Some liked it; others not. It dares to be different, which I think is a strength. Look, there's a ton of energy on stage and bottom line is it's thoroughly entertaining. Hats off to the actors. - Paul B.

I find it very suspicious that the 5 star comments about this show, NEVER go into detail as to why they think that the show deserves 5 stars. 5 stars means SUPERB. This is a big call to say that about this show, when there are so many obvious problems with it. The two major scenes from the movie I feel were terrible. The dribble of water to close the 1st act is one of the most embarrassing examples of stagecraft on the West End stage right now. Production team, please go to Wicked, Lion King, Phantom, Priscilla or War Horse to gauge what audiences expect for their money. Of course set doesn't equal brilliant show, but I expect a show like Flashdance to deliver 1st rate staging. - Lorraine J

There were a few minutes of good choreography in the second half depicting the range of emotions experienced by the central character. Otherwise the rest of the show's dancing can be summarised in two words: rigor mortis. I tried to get into the storyline but kept falling asleep. - Chris

It seems that some of the people commenting here are wanting to switch off their brains and purely get entertained. Fortunately for the rest of us Flashdance is quite an intelligent take on a show of this genre. Why shouldn't a character die? Why shouldn't contemporary dancers help the story/locations segue into one another? If theatre needs to survive then it should appeal to everyone- this include the streetwise kids of today...Hats off to the creative team for trying something different and on this occasion succeeding on all counts. - Russell P West

i had a blast, contrary to most of these reviews I thought the script and music were the best part, this is a musical that makes you think about the current state of the world while wanting to jump up and dance! intellectual depth which seems to be lost on so many people is what makes this great! - Tom Littleton

Don't expect too much sparks and flashes from this show. The 2 big scenes - 'The audition' and 'The shower dance' was a total let down. To be constructive if the producer is reading this. For the audition scene you should place the judges so that the audience can see the reactions of their faces. It's very hard to copy the whole dance routine like the film because in the film it took many takes for the perfect seamless shot. So simply the the dance routine and cut into the fantasy dance scene. The 'shower' scene should be the highlight of act one but the water was dripping like a leak tap. The leading lady will have plenty of time to dry herself off during the intermission so really soak her with water to make that big impact. I went last night and Victoria ( the female lead ) was off but it doesn't matter because the understudy did a pretty good job till the last scene - 'The audition' it's not her fault but the choreography didn't really work, it was a bit embarrassing to watch the lead struggling with the dance routine. I think Matt ( the male lead ) is too young for the part but passable singing and acting. Sarah Ingram ( the mother ) really stood out and the duet with her daughter is the best song of the night. The sets were ok but really for a West End show the steel cranes were a bit amateurish. Once again I prove my point DON'T TRUST Michael Coeveny's reviews !!! from an audience point of view. - from an audience point of view.

A good show and though not the best story--a little corny, I enjoyed it as it was full of energy and loved all the sings--a Feel Good show and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt was excellent--i was exhausted watching her GO--what energy. If you want a fun night out at the theatre then this is a good show to choose - Joe Spiteri

Thought the show was boring. A poor excuse to shoehorn in a couple of 80's hits into a musical. Lowest common denominator mentality. At least make the water and the audition scenes, highlights. Both of these scenes fall flat and don't deliver. It is another case of the cast working their butts off, but it won't make a difference, the plot, music and lyrics aren't strong enough for this jukebox fizzer. - Joel

Poor on all accounts, the problem with the sho is it doesn't commit to anything. Take a show like Hairspray, THOUROUGHLY 50's in it's presentation, it paints a perfect reprezentation of the time it was set. This on the otherhand doesn't, the 2000's hip hop dancemoves are out of place, the set is pony and bland, the lead is not as much a dancer as she is a singer and actress. It just doesn't know wht it wants to be...or..it does but doesn't do it very well. - Tera Patrick

Sorry guys - it's a shocker. Awful script, terrible (original) songs - even one about winning the lottery with projected bouncing balls! Choreography was good but there was no continuity and an off-ish separation between "the crew" and the rest of the cast. Set, sound and cast all great but wasted on such drivel. Oh, and the sudden ending had the audience around me bewildered. - Marcus Sturdy

Yawn fest. I love how the review says "some good songs". It is a musical, they should be great/amazing songs to get 4 stars. I hoping this is the nail in the coffin of these lazy jukebox musicals, catering to tourists and hens nights. I dare anyone who saw it to hum one of the original songs, I bet you can't. - James

It's TERRIBLE! Coveny has lost it... Dull plot.. Boring songs... Very uninspired Choreography.. I could go on. - Tim

IT WAS AMAZING! Totally worth watching Tom Hedley really knows how to bring a slow old movie, to a hip musical! A MUST SEE! - Alisha Mcderbent

very slow at times, choreography did not live up to the music. Best thing in the show was the Mother. Sound quality on singing was poor. Sat on side Royal Circle. - Stuart Ryding
