starstarstarCouldn't agree more with David Baxter's review. The characters don't develop sufficiently for any interest to come out of this play and it being only 60 minutes in length didn't help either. To be honest I'm thankful it wasn't any longer as I was able to enjoy an early dinner! - rds25 Oct 10
starstarstarLower Ninth left me a little nonplussed. It's a competent, if unexciting, play about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina with a Mountaintop-type moment which is telegraphed by the programme. The acting is excellent and thankfully the Louisiana accents are toned down - when I was in New Orleans I could barely understand a word anyone said. However, a 65-minute play with only two characters for most of that time is a starnge choice for a season which is supposed to be a showcase for the Donmar's up and coming directors. There is very little that Charlotte Westenra can do except allow the events to develop and she's not helped by the very low ceiling in Studio 2 and a seating configuration which means we are looking down at a roof supposedly surrounded by flood water. Interesting but hardly a glittering addition to a young director's CV. - David Baxter09 Oct 10
