Acting was absolutely amateurish, music and songs, generally were good, apart from the new numbers - which really seemed a bit 'forced in' to accomodatea couple of roles. Overall disappointing, we did not like the changes of order over some numbers and we thought that some connecting points were missed out. - John & Sue Fisher-Jones

Having seen the London Palladium production a couple of years back, this really is a poor comparison. The set and lighting, for a touring production, is actually very nice, apart from the dodgy hill at the start. The problem comes with the performances. As the WOS reviewer mentioned, Connie was clearly struggling vocally. Her voice was very breathy, and she struggled to hold any high notes or sing them well. However, she was the best of a bad bunch - the cast on the whole seemed very flat, and bored with the whole production (with the exception of the excellent children, Max and Mother Abbess). Particularly poor was the Captain, who muttered or yelled, and seemed to be waiting to say his lines rather than reacting to what was going on. On the whole, rather dissappointing. - James
