WOS TV: Radcliffe/Corden Snog, Uncut Speeches
WOS TV: Radcliffe/Corden Snog, Uncut Speeches
Date: 28 February 2008

We’ve been inundated this week with requests for more footage from our inaugural Whatsonstage.com Year on Year Concert & Awards Show, which took place on Sunday night (24 February 2008) at the West End’s Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue (See WOS TV, 25 Feb 2008) – not least, of course, the now world-famous onstage kiss between presenter James Corden and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, who was a surprise attendee to collect his Dewynters London Newcomer of the Year award for Equus.

The initial snippet of the “Madonna and Britney Spears”-style kiss shown in our compilation video on Monday was copied on Youtube and was soon picked up by media around the world, from Australia and the US to Estonia.

In the extended video below, you can view the full kissing scene and Radcliffe’s reaction as well as – after regaining his composure – the young actor’s moving acceptance speech. Equus won three awards in total: Best Play Revival (collected by author Peter Shaffer) and, for the steamy publicity photos in which Radcliffe bared his torso in front of a white horse, Theatre Event of the Year.

Other highlights shown in this video are cheeky Corden’s champagne come-on to Michael Ball and uncut – and occasionally quite emotional - acceptance speeches by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Diana Rigg and Hairspray’s Tracie Bennett, Ben James-Ellis, Leanne Jones and Michael Ball.

The evening featured performances by: Sharon D Clarke, Melanie La Barrie, Leanne Jones, Ben James-Ellis, Lara Pulver, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Boys, Leila Benn Harris, Robyn North, Debbie Kurup, Matt Cross, Oliver Tompsett, Kristopher Milnes, Russell Walker, Nicole Faraday, Shona White, Matthew Wycliffe, Dean Elliott, Greg Last, Nick Sayce, Paul Baker, Aimie Atkinson, Sarah French Ellis, Graham Bickley, Tom Solomon and Jon Robyns as well as the cast of Into the Hoods and Take That musical Never Forget (including Dean Chisnall, Craig Els, Tim Dreisen, Eaton James, Stephane Anelli and Sophia Ragavelas).

The concert was held in aid of Whatsonstage.com’s adopted charity for 2008, Mousetrap Theatre Projects, which was founded by Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen to give disadvantaged young people affordable access to the best of London’s live theatre. Every year, Mousetrap takes over 7,500 to the theatre. Mousetrap has just celebrated its tenth anniversary.
