Tennant & Stewart Headline New RSC Season???

In addition to David Tennant taking a break from TV’s Doctor Who to give us his Hamlet (See The Goss, 6 Jul 2007), there are a few other tasty morsels expected in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s soon-to-be-announced 2008 season in Stratford-upon-Avon. These include Patrick Stewart – whose Chichester Festival production of Macbeth transfers to the West End this month (See News, 20 Jul 2007) – returning to Stratford after his success with last year’s The Tempest and Antony and Cleopatra (also transferred to the West End) to play Tennant’s stepfather Claudius in artistic director Michael Boyd’s production of Hamlet.
Tennant is also due to tackle the role of Berowne in Love’s Labour’s Lost, while other offerings in the schedule will include new productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew and The Merchant of Venice. Boyd, chief associate director Gregory Doran and executive producer Vikki Heywood are holding a press briefing next Tuesday 11 September to reveal full details of the programme and further London plans.
