Bloom Moves Celebration to Duke of York’s???
Date: 24 May 2007

Preparations are continuing apace for Orlando Bloom’s West End debut this July in David Storey’s 1969 play In Celebration, but we hear the revival is definitely not going to Trafalgar Studios, as previously reported by Variety (See The Goss, 9 May 2007). Now that Little Shop of Horrors is uprooting to the Ambassadors at the end of June (See Today’s News) – good timing! – we reckon that’s where Bloom will blossom in July care of producer Sonia Friedman. At 650 seats, the Duke of York’s is one of the West End’s more intimate playhouses, but it still has 250 more seats per night to meet the demand that Bloom on stage is sure to generate – especially as the 30-year-old actor will, apparently, be getting his kit off. That also leaves the 400-seat Trafalgar Studio 1 free for the planned stripped-down September revival of Jonathan Larson’s La Boheme-inspired musical Rent (See The Goss, 2 May 2007), directed by Kylie Minogue’s former stylist William Baker and produced by the Ambassador Theatre Group (which owns both venues). Directed by Anna Mackmin, in In Celebration Bloom will play one of three brothers who return home for their parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. An announcement about dates, venue and additional casting is expected imminently.
