starstarstarThe men are over and the women badly under written. Disapointing,as the acting is great. - Joe Smith25 May 07
starstarstarAlthough not as shocking as Ridley's last piece Mercury Fur this is still a pretty nasty piece of work encompassing child abuse, child procurement, depression, alcoholism, suicide and glass ornaments(!!!) shot through with the author's characteristic gallows humour. The first twenty minutes are a bit of a mess but the play gathers in momentum and interest as it goes along. Personally, I think I am now a bit over this writer but this is still worth a look, not least because Ben Whishaw and Trystan Gravelle are superb as the troubled brothers. Ruth Sheen is touching if a tad lightweight as their Mum. Sadly, Maxine Peake is badly miscast as the older brother's bitter fiancee: her accent is dreadful and an unsympathetic character is made even more unattractive in this misconceived performance. Lisa Goldman's production is nicely fluid although the constant double revolves get a bit wearing. - ajh19 May 07
