starstarstarstarThough it lags a little in the first half, this is a lovely play with great dialogue and really well developed characters and relationships. The shorter second half is almost perfect and you leave the theatre deeply rewarded. This is Mike Bradwell's last production as Artistic Director; he deserves a huge thank you for bringing us so many great plays in this most welcoming of theatres. Gareth - Gareth James07 Mar 07
starstarstarstarstarMike Bradwell is certainly going out on a high note with this pacey, sensitive, hugely enjoyable production. Georgia Fitch's riveting script is well served by a well-nigh perfect cast who wring every last bit of humour, pathos and surprise from the terrific plot twists and the salty, occasionally rather beautiful dialogue. As the 39 year old pregnant best friends at the play's centre, Michelle Butterly and Heather Craney are nothing short of sensational. Butterly astounds as the tempestuous Louise by turns maddening, adorable, sexy, repellent, selfish, generous...but never less than compelling. As the gentler Annie, the luminous Craney touchingly conveys all the character's innate goodness and warmth without ever descending into prissiness. All in all, this blew me away, and ought to be seen by anybody who is interested in good new writing and powerhouse acting. As with many gems at the Bush, this might disappear after the run ends. I really hope not. - ajh02 Mar 07
