starstarstarstarstarOh my god! Saw the show for the second and last time on Saturday night and couldn't wait - loved it even more than the first time!! My mum who has seen it 5 times nagged at me for ages to go see it which being 23 and saying you're going to see a mucisal about Madness is not good! I can't believe they're taking it off - please explain the logic in that! The whole cast make it brilliant and such entertainment - I now can't stop singing....'it must be love, love, love......' which being in the third row on Saturday and seeing Michael Jibson up close - it was!! He plays the character so well as do the rest of the cast - they all seemed to love every minute of it as much as the audience. Please bring it back!!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.136.139.135)18 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstarI saw the show for the 5th and last time on Thursday! It is a great musical and it should never have closed. However I did find out that it will be touring in the future, so watch out for it in a theatre near you. It is also going to be broadcast on BBC 3 at Christmas this year, which will make a change from The Sound of Music!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.50.173.244)18 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstarThe BBC recorded last night's performance for broadcast at Xmas. Shame that most of the main cast were missing. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.194.86.145)15 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstar2nd time to see it and thought it was even better than last time and I thought it was fantastic first time. Where they found the energy to perform in this heat heaven knows and Michael Jibson was superb. They had a standing ovation, well deserved. Very sad it's closing. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (193.111.24.42)14 Aug 03
starstarstarstarIt's a shame this is closing, so much more energy than Fame! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.134.224.180)13 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstarMichael Jibson is incridible.Everything was just 'right'-Stage,Actors,Story...though,this kept reminding me of Blood Brothers. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.158.196.194)13 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstarWhat a shame that this wonderful show will be over in less than 2 weeks. An even bigger shame is that there is no dvd/vhs of the show and/or soundtrack of the cast available. Full credit to those responsible for the show for entertaining us and keeping the Madness legacy going - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.134.16.145)03 Aug 03
starstarstarstarstarWith reference to this exquisite show leaving, "The odds is gone, / And there is nothing left remarkable / Beneath the visiting moon". (Shagsper, er Shakespeare.) - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.199)27 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstar"Our House" should definitely be filmed to preserve it for posterity. The producers would have another "Withnail and I" on their hands. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.199)27 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarI can't believe it's closing - I've only just seen it and thought it was excellent - been telling everyone they must go and see it but now they may not get the chance - it can't close! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.135.200.5)20 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarPlease don't close. This show is fantastic. How can it not run forever. It's fresh, entertaining, funny, sad and exilirating all in one. It deserves better. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.85.4.68)20 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarI'm shocked that the show is closing in August. And I agree that there should be a video or a cast recording of this released - it would be fantastic. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (194.159.3.6)20 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarI Cant believe this show is closing in August. What about releasing on DVD and Video At least it will be worth money in years to come. Tony - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.134.16.123)19 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarA superb show! I am a huge madness fan and a huge fan of musical theatre. An idel show for me! If you watched the show with out knowing any madness songs you would think they have been specially written for Our House. Every detail has been fine tuned and is excellent. The new orchestrations are great! I have seen the show twice and look forward to seeing it many more times. Does any one know when they are going to release the original cast recording? If you do email me at idaly2000@yahoo.co.uk - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.122.173.46)19 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarThe show lasts a couple of hours but seems like 5 minutes . slick changes by Joe (michael) give the show a magical touch. witty onstage comments are as fresh the 5th time you hear them (been 5 times) bet you cant leave without humming or singing at least 5 songs from the show (for weeks after) - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.2.65.246)06 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarVery slick, very witty, hugely enjoyable, and yet somehow moving (in a musical comedy kind of way) in places too. One of those fantastic evenings where everyone seems to have done their job outstandingly. Who is the hero of the hour? Tim Firth with his wonderful book, Michael Jibson as the utterly charming hero (so he's only 21? Now that _does_ make me feel old, and I'm only 22). Matthew Warchus must have done a fantastic job channelling the vast amounts of energy and plain talent that belong to the cast. Yes, it was a bit too loud (well, certainly compared to the non-tinitis-inducing My Fair Lady at this afternoon's matinee), and arguably Suggs doesn't have as much stage charisma as the rest of the cast - still, he certainly pulled the punters in. But what a night! I think "Baggy Trousers" is probably one of the best routines I've ever seen onstage. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.40.62.229)05 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarThis show deserves a constellation of stars!! May it run forever... - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.219.42)04 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarMAHVELLOUS, dahlings. Seen it now for the 4th time. Alas, bring back Lesley Nichol as the sainted mother - the replacement has not got her feeling. The chap who plays Reecey is terrific. WHY is there no original cast album yet? Are Madness trying to cling on to their performance royalties for as long as poss? - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.219.42)04 Jun 03
starstarstarstarstarExcellent - took my boyfriend as his birthday present and he thought it was wonderful. Our only disappointment was that Suggs wasn't appearing in the matinee performance but the person playing the part of the father was good so I won't complain. Took my boyfriend to see Cats last year which he didn't enjoy - after the first 2 minutes he said this was definitely better!! Well worth seeing. Only problem is I can't get the song Our House out of my mind now! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.135.200.5)28 May 03
starstarstarstarstarI was very apprehensive about seeing this show the first time I went. If it wasn't Madness performing, I wasn't really interetsed. How wrong could I be. The cast and band compliment Madness perfectly. This is a fantastic show. Suggs is brilliant as Joe's Dad. I've seen it 4 times and I can't wait to go again. Hearing classic Madness songs performed in a theatrical format by other performers is fantastic. Not just the hits but also forgotten album tracks like Prospects and Rise and Fall stand out superbly. It really shows what a class act Madness are. Who would have thought that 25 years, 7 guys from Camden would be setting the West End alight with their fantastic songwriting abilities. Why, oh why wasn't Sarah's Song a single? Even Simple Equation - brilliant. The cast themselves are fantastic. So much energy and so much professionalism. There is not one bad performer among them. It would be unfair to single anyone out for individual praise as they all deserve the highest accolades. This really is a fantastic show. I hope it runs and runs. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.18.146.142)28 May 03
starstarstarstarstarRef to the 1 star poster. Where on earth was you sitting in the theatre? Have you ever been to a theatre show before? Ii assume you are not a regular theatre goer the show in my opinion was fantastic. From the cast to the orchestra to those behind the scenes who made it happen. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.5.19)27 May 03
starGod-awful. The band is so loud, you can't hear what's going on on stage and, when the band isn't playing, you realize that you weren't missing anything. The story is dumb and, at best, arbitrary and the music is deafening. Skip it! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (209.6.198.12)27 May 03
starstarstarstarstarThis show seems to go from strength to strength. The future of the show does look great. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.9.210)23 May 03
starstarstarstarstarIs Michael Jibson ill?? From a look at the most recent posts it seems as if Chris Thatcher has been on quite a lot lately. Anyway, I finally got to see him, unexpectedly, last night and can now see what all the fuss was about. He is superb. I have seen the show several times before but have never felt as involved and drawn towards the dual Joes as I did tonight - a tribute, I think, to some very fine acting. Of course, Tim Firth's fabulous script, Peter Darling's inventive choreography and Matthew Warchus' clever staging all contribute greatly to the best night out to be had in the West End this year. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.12)23 May 03
starstarstarstarstarHey .... I've just joined the Chris Thatcher fanclub!!!!! He was on tonight as Joe and was AMAZING! Mary Doherty was also extremely good as Sarah. Saw the show previously several months ago and, like a lot of others, am amazed and delighted that the energy levels are still so high. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.12)23 May 03
starstarstarstarstarTop notch entertainment. If there's a better show in London, I haven't seen it. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (194.159.3.6)22 May 03
starstarstarstarstarI saw this back in December, then again two weeks ago, then twice in as many days this week. The show just gets better and better - it's slicker than ever. The one word that always comes into my head with Our House is ENERGY. The young cast put such a lot into their performances and the audiences have really responded to that. What is particularly noticeable now is that all ages, shapes, sizes and nationalities seem to be going along and enjoying it. Fantastic show - it deserves to run for a long long time. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (194.159.3.6)22 May 03
starstarstarstarstarAlot of people are comlienting how good the actors are but what about Tim Firth and Matthew Warchus who are two of the backbone behind the show - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.5.17)19 May 03
starstarstarstarstarWonderful, Ultimate, Divine Madness - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.5.17)19 May 03
starstarstarstarstarOur House is lively, refreshing and great value for money. Julia Gay who plays Sarah is fantastic. Also the supporting cast from Lesley Nicol to Andrea Francis make this show an enjoyable treat - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.1.204)18 May 03
starstarstarstarstarThis is a great show from start to finish. When you think that this musical was planned about 3 three years ago this show was well worth the wait. Lets hope the show goes on for years - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.1.42)18 May 03
starstarstarstarstarFully deserves all the five star reviews, a real feel good show. Cant believe nobody has mentioned the female lead Julia Gay, she was outstanding, not to mention stunningly beautiful!! - Go see it!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (199.43.13.1)15 May 03
starstarstarstarstarFantastic! This show has everything. We were just expecting the Madness story, but this was beyond all our expectations. We will certainly go back to see it again...and again....Only one minor quibble: it is so terrific, it spoils you for all other shows. "There is nothing left remarkable / Beneath the visiting moon" (Anthony and Cleo). SIX stars! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.106)15 May 03
starstarstarstarstarThis show is the best I have ever seen. The enthusiasm of the cast is infectious and you really start to feel like you are part of the Casey family. I have seen the show 5 times but each time I walk out of the theatre, I know that I have to see it again. Each time you see something different. I can't recommend this highly enough. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.101.24.133)13 May 03
starstarstarstarstarThanks - I shall go on a Fri. and submit another review. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.218.92)12 May 03
starstarstarstarstarRe: Chris Thatcher (again!) Yep, he does the Friday matinees. Just one regular show per week, (not nearly enough!!) though he's just had a whole week on as Joe, hence the mad ravings!! I don't know when Michael's leaving; I would assume the cast change is September-ish, though. As for Chris being "groomed" to take over - well, we can hope, can't we?!? - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.144.130.1)12 May 03
starstarstarstarstarTo those who have written about Chris Thatcher: I have seen the show 4 times and not seen Chris, but I'm intrigued. Is he on at any regular times? How many shows per week does he do? Is he being groomed to take over when Michael Jibson leaves (actually, when is Michael Jibson leaving?_? - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.101)12 May 03
starstarstarstarstarLooks like I picked a good week to see this show!! I'm sure that Michael Jibson is wonderful .... but I've just seen the divine Chris Thatcher give the most amazing performance in the most totally enjoyable show I've seen for a long time. Will definitely be returning with some friends to see the show ... maybe I'll get lucky and see Chris again! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.17)09 May 03
starstarstarstarstarHey - I was there the other night too!!! And I absolutely agree with the rave reviews for Chris Thatcher...I've been lucky enough to see him quite a few times as Joe, and he just gets better and better. He has a beautiful voice and amazing stage presence, not to mention being one of the most brilliantly natural actors I've ever seen...d'you get the feeling I was impressed?!? ;-) - USER: Whatsonstage.com (193.122.47.178)08 May 03
starstarstarstarstarI have seen the show before and LOVED it. I thought that Michael Jibson would be unbeatable in the role of Joe ... but I, too, was there last night to see Chris Thatcher and all I can say is .....WOW!!!!!! Truly a star in the making. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.18)07 May 03
starstarstarstarstarI went to see 'Our House' last night - and it was fantastic! I feel I was very lucky to have seen understudy Chris Thatcher take the part of Joe, he was terrific!!! He is very professional and gave a top notch performance. Congratulations to him. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.222.20)07 May 03
starstarstarstarstarApologies for the typo: that should be empyrean. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.78)06 May 03
starstarstarstarstarComparing this unfavourably to "Mamma Mia!" does not indicate a full appreciation of the way the design serves the plot in this show. Let me spell it out: two railway lines indicating the two choices facing Joe. Red used throughout for the boy who runs (i.e., the "bad" Joe - colour symbolising hell) and blue for the boy who gives himself up (the "good" show - colour symbolising the mpyrean, i.e., heavenly, realm). Brilliant - so brilliant, that it seems to have gone above the heads of those persistently awarding it 1 star. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.78)06 May 03
starstarstarstarstarThe person who gave this two stars, comparing it unfavourably to "Mamma Mia!", has a sense of humour, obviously, but possibly did not fully appreciate the brilliance of the plot. Taking away nothing from "MM", of course (grovel, grovel), but this is in a different league. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.78)06 May 03
starstarstarstarstarO for a Muse of money! - so that I could afford to see this hundreds of times...what joy! Excellent brew. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.216.78)06 May 03
starstarstarstarstarIf you have seen the film sliding doors you will get a good idea to how the story works. Adding the songs of one of the best groups of the 80`s. How many bands can boast there songs spent a total of 4 and half years out of 7 in the British charts total 237 weeks between 1979 and 1986. The band had a great career and now the legacy can live on with a new generation of music fans. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.4.92)28 Apr 03
starstarI liked it... but as a "musical-based-around-the-songs-of-a-band", it doesnt compare to Mamma Mia! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (128.250.6.246)20 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarThis is one of the best shows I have seen whatever you are looking for Humour, intrigue, witty, lively great choreography and great songs then this is a real treat for you. Whislt buying tickets last sat 3 people asked me what I thought of the show. I recommended it to them and they got themselves a ticket too. Don`t delay view the show and if it is not as good as I said it is then heres my E-Mail: tce@blueyonder.co.uk Tony Stratton - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.9.240)18 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarWhat are all the one stars about? This show is absolutly FANTASTIC!!!! The cast give 110% and can tell that they are having the time of there life up on that stage!! The leads are fantastic however i think a special note has to be said about Tameka Empson and Andrea Francis who play Sarah's larger than life friends they are brilliant, there timing is fantastic and add that extra bit of fun to a fun filled show they made the show for me!!! Suggs is OK but it the rest of this very talented cast that really shone. With a plot that could of been hard to follow is extremly easy to follow through very simple effects. The plot is fantastic, the sets amazing, the voices brilliant, the energy immense, I have so much praise for this show it is un-real!!! If your looking for a fantastic night out go go go!!! You will not be dissapointed!!! Steve Sherwin Watford - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.60.47.203)16 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarThis is the best thing I have ever seen on stage!! The cast are all excellent, especially michael jibson who plays his part perfectly!! I can't wait to see the show again! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.16)16 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstar...and I wish there was a 10-star option!! I utterly LOVE this show, it's the cleverest, wittiest, funniest night out in the West End!! The production has everything - an intelligent storyline that manages to balance humour and pathos to perfection, brilliant design, fantastic choreography, (running out of superlatives here..!) But most of all, it has the most energetic and passionate cast I've ever seen in any show. I defy anyone to see Our House and not come away with a huge grin on their face. Oh, and I just have to add that Julia Gay and Michael Jibson are brilliant, but for me, the standout performer is Chris Thatcher, Michael's understudy. Whether he's on as Joe or just being nutty in the ensemble, (and I really do mean NUTTY!!!)he is an absolute star!!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.144.130.1)11 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarSaw the show last December. I am an american, was able to get a ticket for half off, sat 4rows from the stage on the left side. I did not know the songs of Madness other that OUR HOUSE. I fell in love with the band and their music. I found this show to be inventive, energetic, great cast, loved the sets, the dancing, the voices. I found the plot to be involving and kept my interest. I bought the OUR HOUSE CD and listen to it often. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (199.168.33.61)10 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarThis is a wonderful show. From start to finish. I saw the show twice during it`s preview run and was very impressed. A few years ago I met Chas Smash from the band and was enthralled by his enthusiasm in what he does and everyone from Madness to Tiger aspect to Tim Firth have created a real gem Best wishes on a prosperous future. starstarstarstarstarThe best musical in town surely! This is much better then the feeble Bombay dreams, and a lot more fun. The young cast blew me away, as did the superb design and the direction from brilliant director Matthew Warchus was top class. Special mention must go to Micheal Jibson who played the lead, he is perfect in the lead role of the troubled boy. This show fully deserved its standing ovation, so make your way now to the Camridge! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.225.196.13)02 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarIn the 4 months since I saw a creaky and ragged preview, this show has transformed itself ito a slick high-energy treat. It sweeps you away and must be, alongside Mamma Mia, the ultimate feelgood evening. I can't wait to go again. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.211.99.2)01 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarI went last night too and have to agree. The show is brilliant. Suggs was very good but the dancing was tremendous, the cast full of beans and the script is very very funny. This is one of (if not the) best nights out in London. I will go several more times before I tire of it. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.222.20)18 Mar 03
starstarstarstarstarMy DEARS! I have just returned from seeing the first performance of this with Suggsy in the role of the father. And so forgive me for coming over all luvvie. Mark Lamarr, Perry Fenwick (Gary in Eastenders) were among the audience appreciating this. It's EXCELLENT - strong narrative ably supported by symbolic design that draws its inspiration from London's Tube map. Our national colours - red, white and blue - are put to clever use to illuminate the "What if?" plot. Quick changes, lovely acting, blinding dancing, beautiful singing. Luminous performances all round - and you will come out both singing and haunted. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.50.13)17 Mar 03
starstarstarstarstarFabulous show!!! The songs are fun, the dancing makes you want to join in, and the sets work very well with the scenes... but the best thing about Our House is the cast! It's obvious they love what they're doing and they make the audience love to be there too. Great jobs all around--and particularly by the talented Michael Jibson. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.35.144.147)16 Mar 03

starstarstarstarstarFirst saw the show on the opening night of the previews and thought it was really good. OK the sound wasn't all that and the singing wasn't A1 but thought it was a good show. Went back on Saturday night - BRILLIANT!! Like a different show!! starstarstarstarstarok well it seems to me that all these one-star reviews are so obviously by the same sad person who has nothing better to do. For the next 10 minutes I also have nothing better to do, and because Our House is without doubt the freshest, most exciting, most original show in the West End for as long as I can remember, I'm going to do the same...! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.50.13)05 Mar 03

starstarstarstarstarI scored it five stars only because that's as high as it goes. I would give it TEN. Really excellent - great dancing & staging. Loved it - wish I could afford to go again - and again - and again... - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.6.49.95)19 Feb 03
starstarstarstarstarGreat show...now that it has won the award of **BEST NEW MUSICAL** surely the fool who kept giving the show a score of 1 will be eating his keyboard well done OUR HOUSE..... - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.50.13)15 Feb 03
starstarstarstarstarThe top musical in the West End at the moment! Fabulously witty script and choreography that send you out with a real smile on your face. Also just a word about Chris Thatcher ...... Michael Jibson is superb but I think Chris is even better!!!!!! Roll on my next visit. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.177)11 Feb 03
starstarstarstarstarI notice that all the 1 star reviews seem to be clumped around the same date each time-me thinks its just one person spliting up their 20 line review, into 10 shorter ones! Well i feel like doing the same for my review as well. Coz this production is absolutely amazing! Seen it 4 times allready, and intend to go many many more times. I am NOT really a madness fan-i like one or two of their songs, but i have NEVER brought any of their music. However, i believe that anyone, young or old will enjoy this production. The only thing i can fault is that maybe the guy who plays reecee needs to work on his vocals-hes a great actor, but i just feel that in baggy trousers, his voice lets the song down abit. But michael jibson and julia gay more than make up for it. With so many special offers around at the moment, I cant think of a better time to see it-and also, due to the very small size of the theatre, there isnt really a bad seat in the house at all. Let the muppet masses head to mamma mia, but if you want a great night out, take your friends to see OUR HOUSE, and i will PERSONALLY refund your money if you dont come out of the theatre thinking 'WOW !!!!' starstarstarGreat fun! Where on earth do they get all that energy from? Didn't quite know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised to find a stronger plot than in some other shows based around a group's songs. The songs fitted in well and were all done with so much fun and enthusiasm by those on stage that it was infectious. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.137.238.25)01 Feb 03
starstarstarstarFascinated by the reviews so far - most with either a 5 or 1 star rating. Why are all the bad reviews so short and anonymous? Are they all written by one person with an agenda to close the show? Or by someone who failed an audition and is equally bad at writing reviews? Why are all the long reviews favourable and literate? Why is enthusiasm more persuasive than damnation? Perhaps this is a musical for intelligent people with a sense of fun and an interest in musical theatre. And not a show for mean spirited cretins. And Yes, I have seen this show and am returning for the fourth time soon. sjames@hotmail.com - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.1.173)05 Jan 03

starstarstarstarstarI was intrigued by the user reviews which divide pretty much along 1* or 5* lines and so I went to see the show. I thought it was a refreshingly wonderful show and we really enjoyed it. There were some moments that could have been tightened up as with any show but at the end of the night, we were smiling and looking for a dance floor. It was also nice to see a cast of new comers really enjoying themselves and giving 110% and their enthusiasm was infectious - at least with the audience on the night we saw it. I am giving 5 stars because it is a show that I now want to see again. I had no idea Madness had written such a range of wonderful songs either. starstarstarstarstarThe best musical since "Beauty and the Beast". One of the very rare true 5-star jobs. Excellent plot, brilliant singing, acting, creography, staging, and design. A true evening of theatre - magical. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.50.8)19 Dec 02
starstarstarstarUnlike Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You, Our House puts the plot first and the story quite easilly stands on its own merit. The show had a feel of Blood Brothers about it and a touch of Carousel too and the duel plot (a sort of sliding doors) developed well as did the characters. The songs were largely fun but very catchy and everyone was up on their feet at the end of it. My only criticsim is that after hearing a few Madness songs they all tend to sound a bit similar. Michael Jibson is definitely a star of the future. I was sat next to two Americans who I got talking to and they loved it and had heard of Madness and knew the songs so I think the show will appeal to tourists. Get along to the House of Fun for a great night at the theatre. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.254.64.5)14 Dec 02
starstarstarstarstarI was lucky enough to go to the opening night where the audience went totally wild and stood to applaud at every opportunity ... ok so it was full of luvies ! but went again on an ordinary Saturday and well the same reaction ... what can i say other than its just a great show. The energy is fantastic and the young "unknown" cast is the refreshing thing about it - no tired out hacks here: so much talent and so willing ~ id bet money they will all go on to be "stars" ~ GO SEE IT ! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.194.17)07 Dec 02
starstarstarstarstarI am a life long Madness fan but was never too sure about a West End musical. I was worried the whole thing would be cheesy, but I left the Cambridge Theatre realising this show would keep the Madness legacy going for a long time yet. The songs fitted into the story line perfectly and indeed the genius of the bands lyrics shone brightly through the adaptation of the songs. Many of the songs were given a new lease of life and i especially enjoyed the way the lesser known songs such as "Prospects" and "The Rise and Fall" were used. I agree the singing wasn't the best in the world, but the songs just wouldn't work being sung by great singers. The story line, acting and production on the whole can't be faulted. If your a snob about theatre this probably isn't the show for you, but if you want entertainment and a great night out this is a show that does justice to some of the greatest pop songs ever wrote. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.7.55.8)06 Dec 02
starstarstarstarstarDon’t watch that, watch this! Saw a preview a few weeks ago and loved it. I admit I used to be a mad Madness fan, but others in my party weren’t and found it just as enjoyable. Every aspect of this slick production – the musical arrangements, the singing, the acting, the dancing, the sets, the story-line – was top-notch. I’m not sure what some of the “reviewers” who’ve written here were expecting exactly. I guess they‘re entitled to their opinions, but really struggle to understand what there is to dislike about it. I thought Tim Firth’s plot was clever (admittedly influenced by Sliding Doors – but it’s a great film, why not?), and that the lead singing was totally suitable for the songs, and much better than many so-called West End “stars”. It’s a case of horses for courses. Can you imagine Michael Ball singing “Driving in my car”? Michael Jibson is a star – ideal for the part .Is there nothing he can’t do? Singing, acting, dancing, impossibly quick costume changes. Well done to everyone involved – I hope it’s in for a long run and can’t wait to go again. starstarstarstarstarThis show is superb, it would be wouldn't it featuring all the Madness hits. Comments in other reviews criticising the singing are a joke, in the original songs Suggsy didn't exactly sing more he narrated them in an off beat style. Take no notice of the 1* brigade they were obviously on medication! Do yourself a favour and get along to the House of Fun. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (193.35.197.10)13 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarThe night we saw this show was only spoiled by a crappy ex easteanders actor being a dead dad and a dodgy train journey home. I like musicals, Oliver being a particular favorite and I like Madness, why wouldn't you, so I really enjoyed this show. I would suggest that those who gave the show 1* either havn't seen it or were stoned or drunk at the time. It is very funny and in places very clever especially Joe's quick changes, one in particular getting rapturous applause. The music is of course superb and the producers must be congratulated for going for a no star cast. Theres no need for any big names here, it would distract from the show. One thing tho`, change that wooden dead dad, what a T*****. Great night out should be ****** - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.159.33.213)13 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarSeems you either love or loathe this one. Being a long standing Madness fan I had to go see this show but was filled with trepidation about how the band's reputation could lie in tatters if this show was no good. I'm pleased to say I was won over and the whole night was fantastic with the cast being given a standing ovation at the end. Ignore the doom mongers on this page, get along and make your own mind up, you'd be mad to miss it. Mark B. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (193.35.197.10)12 Nov 02

starstarstarstarstarI'm not sure if the 1 * people actually watched the show... its excellent, and I'm going again asap! Thank god for Madness, thats all I can say ;o) - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.194.74.215)06 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarSaw "Our House" on 2nd of November. This show is a must: it's fast moving with an excellent cast. Michael Jibson gives a performance of real warmth and humour. I laughed a lot and got really involved with the characters. Congratulations to the whole cast and particular credit should go to the choreographer - inventive work with many witty moments; I particularly loved the "Oliver" send up, done without any malice. the audience around me left the theatre buzzing with compliments. Go and see "Our House" - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.254.128.6)06 Nov 02
star i went to see it on Friday NIGHT, a very bad show indeed. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.6.77.154)06 Nov 02
starI gave it a try since the show was available at TKTS at half price. I've only heard awful things about this productions and they were all right. Not even worth the £22.50 that I paid. - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 Nov 02
starSo bad that it's not even worth going into details. Nothing can be saved in this dreadful show. - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarI saw this show in Pre-Production in early October and was not moved to write a review until now. The reason for this change of heart is sue to my disbelif at some of the drivel that has been written about this show in these pages. OK so everybody is entiltled to an opinion, but why some of these people went to see a Madness musical is beyond me (one step beyond even!). What did they expect, a show without Madness songs in it?, or perhaps they just got lost on there way home from some pretentious arty exhibition and stumbled into the show after one to many lentil broth and they actually though they were at "OUR HOUSE"?. For thise of you who maybe put off going to see this show by these moaners please don't be. It of course helps if you like the music of Madness, but the fast paced story, young cast and lively dance routines are a joy for all. I have never liked the music of Queen, I shall therfore not go and see the musical, as I would hate it, and then I would would be tempted to write a bad review, which would be stupid, as lots of people love it!! Well done to all the cast, producers, t-shirt sellers and the BAND. Matt Hall - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 Nov 02
starBad singing + bad dancing + awful sound + bad storyline + bad set design = boring show - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 Nov 02
starAwful sound, awful singing, bad comic timing. I've seen amateur productions with better quality. - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 Nov 02
starI'm a Madness fan and I really wanted to like this show, but i's just so bad that it's painful to watch. Everything is bad: the plot, the sets, the sound and especially the singing. - USER: Whatsonstage.com03 Nov 02
starThis is quite bad. The plot is dull, the singing terrible and the father-narrator shouldn't be there. - USER: Whatsonstage.com03 Nov 02
starstarstarOne star or five? - this one really seems to divide people. I only saw an early preview, but thought it showed great promise. The key problem was that it took ages to 'get' the twin stories, so the first half was very confusing. I shall re-visit it now its open. By the way, is it really fair to allow people to post reviews of previews ? - USER: Whatsonstage.com02 Nov 02
starTotally tedious, this show has the worst singers ever seen on stage. - USER: Whatsonstage.com02 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarSuperb. Fast moving, highly entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I loved the way the show linked into the Madness songs. I've been busily recommending it to friends. I thought the singing was brilliant. For those of the reviewers who gave this show a bad review I'm asking myself if they saw the same show. I could go again. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starWeak storyline, weak singing, awful sound and horrible sets make this attempt to a musical the one to miss in the West End right now. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starWhat a waste of time and money. The plot is really bad and the scenes with the dead father-narrator awfully annoying. The singing is terrible and the sound so bad that it's difficult to follow the dialogue even from row E in Stalls. A really boring night. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarLike some of the other reviewers on this page, I was not a Madness fan before I saw the show, so I was a bit dubious about going. But my fears were unfounded, as I caught myself being swept away by the energetic dancing, the fantastic arrangements, the clever staging, some very funny sequences ("Driving in My Car" with the old jalopy on stage like a hip Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or the Camden Market scene that parodies "Oliver", but with market stallholders selling joints rather than milk!) and the clever storyline (yes, it's a similar device to Sliding Doors, but since when has similarity been a crime in the entertainment industry?). It kept me hooked for the entire duration, with its vitality and speed of pace. Where I do agree with some of the comments below is that I thought the singing, especially of the two main leads, was weak - this is something that seems to be the norm now in the West End, where young actors can't seem to project or hold a note or pitch correctly - I'm not sure what's going on with the training of musical stars, but whatever it is it's not working. We had good seats in the circle and could just about hear, so heaven knows how people at the back made out anything. Also, I agree, that the father figure (played by EastEnders' "Tricky Dicky") is mightily annoying - any chance of writing him out would help the show all round. But these gripes were not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the show - a great night out, and one that I'll definitely be repeating. Iq - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starThe songs of Madness, which are the main thing in this show, sound awful thanks to the extremely weak singers. Bad sests and awful lighting design. The Fri mat have been cancelled, obviously is not doing well. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starDreadful, shameless copy of the Sliding Doors ideas with terrible singers. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starSimply dull and boring. - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarvery very good, a treat for all the family, my gran loved it! down to earth and splendid songs. Im not sure if some of the reviewers on this page actually saw it? or are they just sour new romantics??!! if you want a toe tapping hand clapping experience you'd be mad to miss this - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02

starApart from the Driving In My Car scene there's nothing memorable about this show. So boring. By the if this is a musical why didn't they cast people who can actually sing? - USER: Whatsonstage.com01 Nov 02
starThe plot is very bad and the sentimental subplot with the dead father acting as a conscience to his son is just embarrasing. Add bad singing, bad sound system which drowns the words and the awful Madness tunes and you get the worst show in town. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Oct 02
starTotally unimaginative, I'm sorry to say. Being a fan of Madness I had really big hopes, but the singing is really bad and the plot total nonsense. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Oct 02
starI don't understand how this atrocity of a show has made it into the West End. Bad sets, bad singers, bad plot. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Oct 02
starDreadful. The cast are really bad singers plus the music drowns the words. Very weak story line. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Oct 02
starSo bad that it's painful to watch. Since the performers are all unknown why did'n they choose a bunch who could actually sing? The scenes with the dead father are just the worst thing I've ever seen on a stage. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Oct 02
starI thought We Will Rock You was the worst show in town, until a couple of days ago when I saw this awful and pretentious piece of c**p. - USER: Whatsonstage.com30 Oct 02
starstarstarstarstarMad-Tastic..Being a life long Madness fan I was bound to be a bit one sided, however my wife is NOT a Madness fan and she thought the show was "fantastic".To see these songs performed so well and with so much energy was great..If you don't enjoy this show..you don't come from a HOUSE OF FUN..Melv..Herne Bay - USER: Whatsonstage.com30 Oct 02
starTerrible, really, really bad. Dreadful singers who sing out of tune all the time. Very bad sound system and the narrator-dead father story line is so bad that it's painful to watch, theyare trying to copy Blood Brothers shamelessly. - USER: Whatsonstage.com30 Oct 02
starstarstarstarstarI thought it was nothing less than FANTASTIC! The songs, the dancing, and script, and the direction were top notch, and the cast didn't seem to have let any of the less-than-fantastic reviews bother them! You see, the thing with me, is that when i go to see a musical i want to be entertained...(and likewise when i go and see a comedy i want to laugh.....something which did NOT happen went i saw 'the woman who cooked her husband' last week'). So sure, maybe the actors and actresses in our house wont win any oscars for their acting, and there will be no singing awards hanging out, and maybe their dancing could be just a bit better...but all in all, i thought it was VERY entertaining..it kept my attention throughout (not one single song could be described as a 'boring' song), as it was very fast moving, with no piece of the set staying on for more than a few seconds at most! It was humerous as well, without trying to hard for laughs (we will rock you). - USER: Whatsonstage.com30 Oct 02
starstarstarstarstarHard to find anything bad to say about this. Seems like the songs and the story hang together far better than other new pop group musicals. Great cast and some top comedy moments make this one of the best shows in town right now. - USER: Whatsonstage.com29 Oct 02
starVery weak show with extremely poor sound. A couple of funny bits but that's it. Weak singing voices and the melodramatic and sentimental moments don't really work, the scenes with the father are simply an embarrasement. - USER: Whatsonstage.com29 Oct 02
starstarstarI too attended the first night show, and appreciated the warning from the producer at the start, to expect glitches. A good show all in all, with some great one liners, good young talent and comic moments. Though the sound was pretty poor in parts, and I missed many spoken and sung lines, which spolt my enjoyment. The final scene also was quite weak; was expecting some big memorable number with the whole cast, and what appeared was definately not. But I am sure some essential tweaking will be done and those attending in the future will enjoy a great show. Kathryn - USER: Whatsonstage.com08 Oct 02
starstarstarstarstarAfter viewing "Our House" this past evening, I predict a hit — full stop! As this was opening night, Director Matthew Warchus warned that there may be a few glitches in the performance and joked that they will stop and do it all again if mistakes are made. There were forgivable nanoseconds of imperfection which made the evening unique, most likely warming the audience to the talent on stage. The links to the songs were impressive. This particular show surpasses other band tribute musical productions with the quality of the plot and effective, understated visuals to drive the audience. Without giving away the little treats in store for viewers, I must reveal that "Driving in My Car" was a wild ride! The choreography was delightful, a refreshing change from the typical old school modelled musical as well as boy-band (ala Janet Jackson type) dancing clones we have been viewing for the last decade. Classic moves interwoven with modern ones fashioned perfectly to the music. The costumes, lighting, set design and props equally made this viewing special. Each effort was thoughtful and appropriate to the tone of the performance. The individual performers are talented actors who sang well, danced gracefully and delivered lines with comical pizzazz. The orchestra was superb and no wonder, they must really love doing this gig! Overall this was a well planed thoughtful tribute to the music of Madness. Don't miss this show! Anne Stockton, SW15. - USER: Whatsonstage.com08 Oct 02
starstarstarstarstarNot really being a Madness fan (at all!) I glumly dragged myself to the performance last night with my Madness Mad other half! I had prepared myself for a couple of hours of dodgy 2tone music and people jumping up and down manically! To my surprise however, I was instead greeted with one of the best performances I have seen in AGES!! The ‘sliding doors’ storyline was excellent – whilst making the performers work twice as hard it gave the production an amazing life of it’s own, as you follow the two tangents that Joe’s life takes. In places, you felt as though David Copperfield had been involved in the costume changes!! There really were no weak points in the storyline or the performance – I was mesmerised with the roller coaster pace of the performance from start to finish! The Set design, whilst at first seeming a little stark, works fantastically well and the performers use the space admirably. With music both familiar and new, a great storyline, ironic parodies and a cast that dance better than that of Fame – What more could you possibly ask from a performance? WELL DONE to everyone concerned for a FANTASTIC production, and many thanks to WOS for letting us be the privileged few to be there on it’s first real night. I'll be back in a month’s time with many more people!! Natasha - USER: Whatsonstage.com08 Oct 02

starstarstarstarSaw the first performance last night. Excellent. There were some minor problems but the potential of the show was apparent. The links to the songs were very well done - much more so than other "band" musicals that this will be compared to, and Tim Firth has done a wonderful job. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the plot. Ash_G - USER: Whatsonstage.com08 Oct 02
