| Competently to well acted (Alison Pargeter is particularly impressive), the problem here is in the material. Were it not for the references to mobile phones, and some rather tired laughs at the text messaging style, there would be no evidence that the last 25 years or so had ever happened. There is undoubtedly a market for this kind of material - those over about 65, and who have a habit of eating sweets throughout the performance while muttering things like "oh I say" and "tut, tut tut" in response to twists in the action, in the audience clearly loved it while the rest sat rather bemused at entering this time warp. For me, this is all that's wrong with regional theatre. Of its genre, this is fine, safe, unchallenging and well presented. It's just not my taste. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (82.3.68.185) | 16 Feb 04 |
