All That Fall (Jermyn Street Theatre, Inner London)

| By assembling Trevor Nunn, Michael Gambon and Eileen Atkins, the tiny Jermyn Street Theatre has probably guaranteed a nomination for Event of the Year. The problem is that it is for a staging of a Samuel Beckett radio play which, for me, makes for a rather oddly staged and very long 80 minutes of seemingly pointless and rambling dialogue. It did seem to build up to something quite shocking but by then I was praying for it to finish. Atkins is superb and Gambon brings huge stage presence but, although I am very glad to have had the experience, I had forgotten almost everything about it even before I reached the tube station. - David Baxter | 25 Oct 12 |
