starstarstarstarI saw this last night and was really blown away by it. I don't know if it has developed a lot since "Adam" saw it but it was anything but forgettable. So much so I wanted to see what others had said about it. I agree that Aunt Rose's accent did go off at times (which stops me from putting 5 stars), but I found her ejection at the end deeply moving. And I found the other 3 main performances very powerful, especially Ed Cooper Clarke's Italian-American filled with sadness, rage and sexuality, and flipping the world of Baby Doll and Archie Lee upside down. I would definitely recommend. It's an unusual play, perhaps, but well worth seeing: great performances and wonderfully atmospheric design - James07 Oct 12

starstarFor me this production was thoroughly forgettable. I am a Nuffield regular and given the quality of the productions which normally grace the Southampton stage, I was left feeling rather disappointed. None of the cast exhibited believable or even passable South American accents, I can appreciate that it can be difficult accent to master, but as a paying customer watching professional performers I expected better. The relationships between the characters did not appear to have been established, and similarly none of the actors built any kind of rapport with the audience. I felt like I was watching a School Production with each of the actors vying to make the most of their moment in the limelight. I could not hear anything Aunt Rose was trying to say, bad accent or not, and I was sat slap bang in the centre of the auditorium. Perhaps this production needs more time to develop properly...... - Adam03 Oct 12
