| utter drivel I really wanted to leave at the interval, I didnt laugh properly once. Not an atom of the wit of the muppets. Save your money and go and rent a good dvd. - milddavids | 22 Dec 09 | |
| if you're going to the theatre in london, then don't go and see this. we thought we'd give it a try, something different, which it is but perhaps too different and in no way a classic! most reviews rave about how funny it is ( although i notice some very recent reviews don't rate it as highly as when first staged), which may be true but you'll either love it or make a dash for it in the interval. it's quite simply people running around on stage with puppets on their arms, jokes that, on the whole tend to fall flat,a very vague 'happy ever after' story with the occasional bit of swearing in to try and make it more outragous. it has however been running for some time so some people must like it, and as the audience seemed mostly made up of americans and students, i would suggest unless you fall into this catagory to give it a miss and see a proper show!! overall rating, don't waste your money - darren | 24 Nov 09 | |
| It's been quite a while since I last saw Avenue Q and it's good to see a favourite show still in fine form. Unlike the critics I love its soft centre - these characters are old friends and i still want Kate and Princeton to get together. There have been a few cast changes as well as a change of theatre and the return of the wonderful (and slimline) Julie Atherton and the first surprise is - Julie's gone blonde! Daniel Boys' Princeton is not as good as Jon Robyns but he's an excellent Rod and it's good to see the incredible Joanna Ampil as Christmas Eve, although she does not get an opportunity to showcase her fantastic voice. Sadly the theatre was only half full and the joke about Germans in Schadenfeude got the biggest laugh so I'm not sure how much longer Avenue Q can last. As the CD is of the much inferior Broadway cast I'll happily keep coming back as long as Avenue Q has a home in London. - David Baxter | 12 Jul 09 |
