starstarstarstarA great little production at the Soho, a two hander with Jonathan Pryce and Flora Montgomery. It is hard to take you eyes off Mr Pryce, he is such a superb actor, even sniffing the wine as an upper class yank might (and I have never seen him in a non musical). The writing is weak at times (its about repressed or false memory syndrome depending on your view), but I was never bored. Ms Montgomery plays well (even if some lines a re slightly hammy, but I blame the script). All in all a good night, a great chance to see Pryce close up (I was in the front row). - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.222.20)17 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarThough Soho Theatre is a rather small venue, The cast of A Reckoning manages to convince the audience that they are watching a major Westend production. The play is beautifully directed and the scenery (though minimal) is extremely clever. The production is relatively short (lasting only 1hr 20mins) but then for the price of the tickets even that is good value for money! The basic story is that Spencer (Played by Pryce) is grieving as the 1-year anniversary of his wife’s death approaches. Spencer's daughter (Played by Flora Montgomery) unexpectedly visits him and confronts him about their families past. Jonathan Pryce was fantastic and totally convincing - Flora Montgomery is (I believe) a real star of the future, a real talent has been found there. The audience gets drawn into the play and by the end I was convinced that it was a true story. One thing I would highlight though is that the seating is unreserved so you can buy the ticket as early as you like but you're still not guaranteed a good seat! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.77.75.22)30 Mar 03
