| Either this production was a brilliant attempt to elucidate the line "sound and fury, signifying nothing," or it was just poorly conceived. Amidst the blood and banging, the story of man's moral decay at the hands of ambition was utterly absent. Morrison seemed so eager to imprint his fetishistic motif of baby slaughter onto Shakespeare's narrative that little of the original text came through. - Nick Sansone | 08 Jul 07 | |
| I loved it - it was so visceral, edgy and dramatic. And fresh and relevant too. - Alice Coghlan | 02 Jun 07 | |
| Not a great production at all. The WOS review has it about right - unsubbtle, shouty and not much insight. In fact, the production seems to consistently ignore the textual evidence of MacBeth being honourable before his fall. Consequently his decision to try to change "fate" is not tragic in any way. It lacks any sense of evil, and seems to have tried overly hard to make the story "fit" with modern issues and therefore the moral - which does fit - is lost. Missable. - Welthorpe | 23 Apr 07 |
