starI have seen a lot of crap in my time but this is right up there. Some good actors do their best, but the writing is as badas it gets. Wow. And this was the thing the bush pinned its hopes on to pull it out of a tailspin? Jeez - Dave F-T14 Jul 12
starstarKudos to the new regime at the Bush for introducing Wednesday matinees as it means I can now include this vibrant little theatre on my timetable and I hope they find an audience. However they are going to need to programme much better plays than this. Dominic Savage has nothing new to say about the feral youths that stalk our streets. Fear shows us two such examples who take a revolting and predictable profane satisfaction from the fear and violence they inflict as part of their "career" as muggers. The other two main chartcaters are a banker and his pregnant wife whose lavish lifestyle is based on his earnings from mergers and acquisitions - compare and contrast the morality of the two methods of obtaining money is the obvious and trite message. After the banker is stabbed to death in a robbery one of the two hoodlums implausibly gains a conscience as a result of a risible haunting from his victim and a confrontation with his widow (Louise Delamere who is at least believable in her role). I'm always wary of plays directed by the writer as there is no objective voice to tighten up the script or iron out parts that simply don't work. There is far too much of both faults with Fear and the 80 minutes managed to seem far longer. - David Baxter28 Jun 12
starstarI felt I was watching an succession of impressions. David Brent and Alison Steadman with a spitting Image Scotsman thrown in for good/bad measure. The dialogue was tedious and going nowhere. What is the point I kept thinking? Fortunately I was relieved of having to sit through the second act due to the indisposition of one of the cast members ..... perhaps they'd had enough of it too? The Bush well off form. - rds19 Feb 10
