starstarstarstarNo, I don't believe that Will wrote more than a couple of scenes, but the play is genuinely gripping and deserved this revival. David Rintoul makes the most of an odd role, but I thought Michael Thomas quietly stole the show as King John of France. - USER: Whatsonstage.com31 Aug 02
starstarstarstarOdd that I find myself agreeing with many of Robert Hole's individual comments, yet totally at odds with his 2-star rating for a strong unfussy production of a play that always holds the interest, if at times as a compendium of future Shakespearean lines and scenes. The section with the Countess of Salisbury (the excellent Caroline Faber) may require much brain-searching to justify its relevance, but its moral subtleties introduce a welcome touch of Measure for Measure into the dry run for Henry V. David Rintoul convinces as one of Shakespeare's less distinctive kings, and who can resist the appearance of the line 'Farewell, sweet prince' in totally different circumstances from its cousin in Hamlet? 3 and a half stars, at least! - USER: Whatsonstage.com23 Jul 02
