Christmas Cracker (Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, West End)

| A 'winter entertainment' at Shakespeare's (roofless) Globe sounded such a good idea in the summer, when freezing temperatures are long forgotten. Fortunately, it was winter length rather than Shakespeare length and with a glass of mulled wine in the interval we survived. It's a great idea and there are some terrific 'turns' but it doesn't really hang together and the scene linking the deaths of a bunch of Shakespeare's characters brought the seconfd half down when it had just reached a high. Still, it's a very different seasonal experience and well worth braving the cold. - Gareth James | 03 Jan 10 |
