| What a lovely play this is: exquisite dialogue and a nice balance between comic and darker elements. The entire cast is superb, with Edward Fox giving a masterclass in comic acting. Nancy Carroll and Ryan Kiggell are particularly outstanding as the love interest, suggesting a sensuality beneath the starched Edwardian costumes, and it is always a pleasure to watch an actress as classy as Diana Quick. Peter Hall's production casts a warm glow, marred only by some of the ugliest, tattiest sets I've ever seen in the West End. Nonetheless, this is well worth a look. - 195.82.123.181) | 11 Jan 06 |
