 | I was fortunate enough to see this on it's final day at Curve and thought it was astonishing. You walked out of the theatre at the end feeling like you'd done several rounds with a boxer but so grateful to have witnessed such an emotive story. With regard to the English accents and songs partially in English, I thought that this was a stroke of genius. It would be so easy not to feel connection to somebody that lived in a different country so many years ago but using accents you are used to hearing made the story so accessible. This was suddenly a tragic story that could just as easily been about somebody such as Amy Winehouse. We're lucky to have theatre at Curve that's not only West End standard but truly world class theatre, and Piaf is a superb example of this. - IanLeic | 09 Apr 13 |
| I went to see this show whilst it was still previewing and thought it was the best thing I have seen for a long time at the theatre. It was my first time in The Studio at The Curve in Leicester which was very impressive. I loved the set, the music, the cast, in fact the whole production and I have to disagree with the previous reviewer as I really appreciated the fact that some of the songs were sung partly in English. I do agree that the German Officers were reminscent of Allo Allo, but I thought that was deliberate! | I was disappointed. Why did the majority of the cast have London accents and why were these iconic songs partially sung in English which totally ruined many potentially special moments. The fleeting appearance of two German officers was almost like watching Allo Allo. - PegRem | 01 Mar 13 |
