| What can I add? In 30 years of seeing countless productions of Shakespeare, including many productions of this play, it is hard to recall a production that matches this one. It was thrilling to be in a West End theatre watching a 400-year old play as if you were at the world premiere. The production is impeccable and the performances are all magnificent - it is quite simply faultless. However many 'Dreams' you've seen, you must see this one. I almost didn't bother; thank god something inspired me to go to 'yet another Dream'. GO NOW ! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.211.87.4) | 26 Oct 03 | |
| Fantastic. This is the ultimate production of Shakespeare's play. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.19.90.93) | 23 Oct 03 | |
| Very, very good, particularly in the performances of Puck, Bottom and Titania. The lovers could be stronger; the "female" voices of Hermia and Helena are strident and monotonous. Don't wander far at the interval, as most of the cast steps into the lobby to sing and pass the hat for an arts-for-kids charity they've adopted. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (12.107.15.2) | 25 Sep 03 | |
| This production is absolute magic! Propeller bring the plays alive for me. I first saw this production of "The Dream" in its first week at The Watermill and at The Hexagon in Reading. I couldn't pick out any one individual, they are all brilliant! Well done propeller, looking forward to the next production already! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.34.13) | 05 Sep 03 | |
| We saw this in a packed house in Newcastle and absolutely loved it, and from the cutain calls, applause, and laughs all through the performance, so did everyone else. We loved Simon Scardifield as Puck but also thought Jonathan McGuinness and Richard Clothier were fab. I loved Rose Rage and came out of Dream feeling exactly the same - "when can I see this again???" - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.249.211.174) | 27 Aug 03 | |
| Ed Hall has done it again! He has this amazing way of making Shakespeare so accessible and real. Dream is one of the most played Shakespeares plays but this version is the best I've ever seen (and I've seen a fair few!). Congratulations Ed - I eagerly await your next Shakespeare .... - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.216.26.149) | 18 Aug 03 | |
| I heartily agree with the majority view: this show (which I saw in Guildford) is the best imaginable Dream. An unmitigated delight from start to finish. Job - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.9.95) | 18 Aug 03 | |
| I saw this in Richmond. Yet again, Ed Hall shows what an extraordinary talent he has. As with all his Shakespeare productions, he manages to bring a freshness to the play which did not seem possible. I would have given it 5 stars but there is some weakness in the acting. However, Simon Scardifield is one of the best Pucks I have seen. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.34.13) | 16 Aug 03 | |
| I saw this production in it's first week at the Watermill Theatre and it knocked me out! I can't wait to see it again at the Comedy. I've seen many versions of Dream before and I didn't think anything could top Propeller's superb Rose Rage but this is simply wonderful! We are so lucky to have this talented Company keeping Shakespeare "real". - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.6.239.67) | 16 Aug 03 | |
| EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT. watching this engaging and totally fresh rendition made me feel as if I'd never seen Dream before - when in fact, i've seen far too many to mention ! Go, go, go. It's people like Propeller who make Shakespeare live today. totally vibrant and unforgettable. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (82.35.56.7) | 15 Aug 03 | |
| Fantastic production. I thought the cast were brilliant - especially Simon Scardifield as Puck. Well worth it! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.216.26.149) | 15 Aug 03 | |
| Reasonable performance of the play - I have seen better, but it is a difficult play to stage, and some of the players (especially Hermia) are quite weak. Oberon and Titania have a tendendcy to speak extremely slowly which becomes wearing... and the only real quality comes in the play "Pyramus and Thisbe" at the end. Walk, don't run. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.104.103.218) | 15 Aug 03 | |
| I saw this production on tour in Richmond in June, and am delighted to hear it's coming into the West End. It's a wonderful demonstration of the joys of ensemble acting, performed by a spectacularly gifted company who are obviously hugely enjoying themselves. The text is treated lovingly and inventively, and the play emerges as both hilarious and touching. I've seen two other great productions of "Dream": the landmark Peter Brook production around 1970 and the wonderful Adrian Noble RSC production in the '80s, and this is right up there with them. Don't miss it! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (132.162.40.214) | 15 Jul 03 |
