| I saw this brilliant production with my school last week, and it was simply superb. Graham Butler and James Norton really excelled in this masterpiece of drama. At first, I thought that the non-changing set would be quite limiting to the piece, but the masterful acting of the company knew no bounds, moving nearly all of the audience to tears. I would recommend this to anyone, and I think that the actors really deserve their due credit. - R.M | 17 Mar 11 | |
| Saw this yesterday with my 13 year old son. Excellent! Deeply moving, with fine performances. James Norton (Stanhope) surely has a brilliant career ahead of him. - Tracey, Richmond | 13 Mar 11 | |
| Saw this last night. Superb direction and performances. The writing has stood the test of time. This is a powerful piece of theatre which thoroughly deserves its place in the curriculum both as literature and as a means of educating teenagers about what their great grandparents suffered. - CSDLondon | 12 Mar 11 | |
| Despite having to share the theatre with hordes of schoolchildren who are studying this play for GCSE, I was enthralled from start to finish. A comparatively unknown cast (at least to me) pulled off a wonderful example of ensemble playing at its best, and were superbly directed by David Grindley. The design of Jonathan Fensom was brilliant, and the sound effects, particularly at the very end, were shattering. The play itself is a masterpiece in the English tradition of well-crafted drama which gradually builds in tension until both characters and audience feel that something must inevitably snap. As an anti-war statement it is still relevant today, and its message has hardly been bettered. - sc | 09 Mar 11 | |
